Y'all (13.75 / 4)
are going to laugh.

I got logged off here and when I tried logging in it wouldn't work.  I had a time changing my email address here the other day too.  It wasn't wanting to take it.

I sent for my password to come to my email.  I only use a few different passwords everywhere so I was pretty sure I was getting it right.  Well lo and behold when my password came in email I saw that I had made a typo from my normal password when I set up the account here and had never realized it.  Lucky my browser hadn't lost it long before this.

i'm so glad (11.75 / 4)
i'm not the only one does stuff like that!

long distance hugs (13.83 / 6)
to our incredible friend (((((((Kathleen)))))))

her last message to me a couple of days ago says it all... let's make lemonade!

If Kathleen's friend is doing better, I'm glad to hear it! (12.80 / 5)
Hugs to Kathleen from me, too.(((((((Kathleen)))))

It's a rainy Monday afternoon here.  I just got a letter in the mail from Maytag stating that my dishwasher (which is all plastic inside) is one of the ones on recall due to a dozen reports of  the electrical failure of the heating elements causing an electrical fire, and, in one case, resulting in extensive kitchen damage as a consequence, although no personal physical injuries were reported.  My serial number ended in one of the double letters on the list of the note, so, I've got to figure out whether I want a free repair, or to just purchase a Maytag dishwasher with a stainless steel tub, with a rebate of $150.00 or $250.00 dollars.  i'll just have to think about it, although I must admit that it's a bit chilling to receive this kind of letter (legitimate) in the mail, it's better to be on the safe side, imho.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

i just hate (15.00 / 4)
getting those recall notices!
we got one once for my car(!!) it was about something in the radio that overheated & caused damage to cd's & in a couple cases caused a fire! i wouldn't even turn on the radio until it got fixed & even now i put my hand on the dash regularly to see if it's heating up.

good luck making that decision!

Thanks for the well-wishing, RiaD. (14.33 / 3)
Hi, RiaD.  Thanks again.

My brother and sister-in-law had a 1998 Subaru Outback for a long time, which, unbeknownst to them, was one of the  Subarus being re-called  (cars made up through 1999).  Due to an oversight by the company, my brother did not receive any notification about the recall.  One day, when he was driving somewhere, the car's head gasket blew out.  My brother was OK, and all, but it was a  harrowing experience for him.  He ultimately traded in that care and put the money (I forget how much he got for the Subaru Outback) towards buying a newer better car;  A Honda Civic CRV, which they both like very much.

How shortsighted people can sometimes be.   I'm glad I got the re-call for my dishwasher, though.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Y'all have to read this: (11.50 / 4)

It's a major talking point for Democrats...if only our elected Democrats weren't acting like Reagan Rethuglicans.

English usage is sometimes more than mere taste, judgment and education - sometimes it's sheer luck, like getting across the street.

The Democrats are too craven and too cowardly NOT to act like Republicans, that's why. (0.00 / 0)
Unfortunately, this tendency on the part of the Dems to cave in dates back more than 40 years.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Don't.  Really.  Don't wait.  Get your aggressive friend to hype your work for you...and if you don't have an aggressive friend, I will lend you one of mine.

You don't believe in yourself strongly enough, Ria.  But I have seen your photos.  Your quilts should be hanging in MOMA or at least the Folk Art Museum.

Reach for the stars, sister!  You are an artist.

Sweetie, it's true: (14.00 / 4)
Your designs, and your choices of fabrics, are truly inspired.  Artistry.  Whatever.  The only thing that might not make them museum pieces is the fact that you use a sewing machine.  And who wouldn't?  But...here I am thinking, if you could hand-piece one or two a year and sell each one for about 50 grand...that would be better, wouldn't it, than compromising your art to make less money faster?

I'm not in the art world by any means.  But you've shown us your work, and a small quilt (hand-quilted) of your best work should, I think, go for $5-20 grand.

Maybe not right away, but after you've had a few shows and the NYT has interviewed you and Mr. D and probably your kids and neighbors, too.  (Fame has a price, lol.)

Look: this is NOT my area of expertise.  But your best quilts are art, dammit.  Heh:

Dammit Janet!

Susan Sarandon certainly grew up to be a brilliant actor, didn't she?  I remember seeing her quoted in the early/mid-1980s as referring to herself as the "Queen of the B's" (B-movies).

So what I am saying is: if for now what you need to do is make some cash, do it.  But think of yourself as Susan Sarandon:  When I get my break, I will bring all my acting chops to bear, and I will be brilliant.  And I will win -- or at least get nominated for -- many Oscars.

do you mean (12.50 / 2)
hand sew the entire thing?
gha!

that's a shit-ton of work!
but what i could do is have a hand done project going and do my other quilts too.
so it might take 6 months or a year to complete the hand done one (& it'd have to be a fucking fabulous idea/concept to keep me interested) but in the meantime i'd have some money coming in.

i hand quilt or tie them & the binding is handwork... just use the machine to piece...
& on the fairy quilt to add decorative top stitching (silk thread) to highlight some bits.

this is certainly food for thought youff!
thanks sweetie
