Saturday Open Thoughts

I'm addicted to doing griddler puzzles.  There are many other names for them but since I've been a member at Griddlers.net since Dec. 9, 2002 I'm partial to the term griddler over nonogram or paint by numbers.  Some are single puzzles and some are multigriddlers have many parts to finish to make a whole puzzle.  Some of the larger multigriddlers are stunning.

Alma :: Saturday Open Thoughts
To give you an idea of how addicted I am, I have solved 45,496 griddlers and my score for them is 1,612,753,430 points.  I am currently in 6th place for most solved ever.  I'm momb over there if any of you ever come by.

Below is a picture of a triddler.  Sorry for the small size.  I couldn't find any other good triddler pics and photobucket wouldn't change the size correctly on this one. When I tried it kind of cropped it and I just had a blurry corner left. Triddlers are a little more difficult and require a larger screen to do most of them easily, but some of them are simply beautiful, even the small ones.  I've only done 1,175 of them with a score of 392,522.

The site used to tell you how much time you had spent solving puzzles but they dropped that a few years ago because people realized how much time they were taking up and started trying to cut back.

So thats my not so secret guilty pleasure.  Whats yours?

Any plans for the holiday weekend?

gotta admit, never heard of griddlers, but not surprised at all that your so awesome at it, momb!

no plans for the long weekend (except working, labor day means oh so little to me), but late at night into the wee hours, when I finally have the chance to be completely alone, I indulge in my secret pleasure - headphones and spending hours of quality time with Shostakovitch, Mussorgsky, Dvorak, Stravinsky, Rachmaninoff, Puccini... among so many others!

don't get me wrong, I love salsa, too... but I save that secret pleasure for when the sun's up and I really need to move my ass cleaning the house and taking care of the menagerie  :O)

We all need (12.75 / 4)
that secret little pleasure that we can indulge.  It makes life so much easier to take.

I take it Juans not into the classics.  I'm not either but my hubby is as are some of the grandpigs.  I'm not kidding.  Katies tried a few different types of music to see which they like best.  They respond to several types.

Oh, newp... (15.00 / 3)
WRTI is the main reason I rarely watch videos anymore.  (Note to self:  must buy decent radio ASAP.)

http://www.wrti.org/listenlive...

I'm listening to their jazz stream right now, but they stream both over the internet 24/7.

And the DJs are terrific.

And their coverage includes my local area -- which is why I need a radio (& it should really be an HD radio, if I can afford it) so I can listen and watch vids.  I mean, my computer can handle both at once, but it annoys the shit out of me to have two conflicting musical streams at once.  With a radio, I can just turn down the volume for a few minutes.

WRTI is fantastic, Youff! (15.00 / 3)
ever since you sent me the link month ago, I've been a big fan  :O)  I haven't installed the VLC player on the new computer yet, but I haven't had a problem with my windows media player like I did on the old computer.

Oh, good, newp! (13.33 / 3)
I tell everyone about WRTI & rarely get feedback from anyone who listens to them.  During pledge drives, though, Jill Pasternak has mentioned that they get online hits from all over the world.

Don't get to listen to Jill much anymore b/c I'm either at work or out & about during her show, but she's great for classical: the 2-6 p.m. Eastern time slot.

But I absolutely adore Bob Perkins for jazz.  He has a Sunday show that runs from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. & I always hate to turn it off and go to work.

So glad you're enjoying the station too!

gha! (13.50 / 4)
so that's what they're called!

that's kinda the effect i'm going for with my quilts- that inbetween pictures & patches idea i was telling you about?

i upped the size of your "triddlers". if it ruins the effect plz edit that out.
(& you can increase/decrease the size of ANY pic just like that)

my guilty pleasure is teh 'puter.
i stay on it for hours... sometimes days!
i just get lost in looking at stuff. there is sooo much to see!!

no plans for teh weekend. it's just another day.

i'm heading back to bed. still not feeling ver good.
i didn't get up until 10 this morning & already i feel exhausted  :(

Good to see (14.00 / 5)
you dancingtrees.  :)

I loved the pics of the Princess dress and quilts.  Someone seems to take after their mom.  :)

[ Parent ]
thanks alma! (13.00 / 4)
and yes, its good to get a few minutes for myself and catch up here...

The princess still loves her cover, and still carries it, her monkey and her mouse around the house... so cute!!

(((((dancingtrees))))) (13.33 / 3)

Get all the rest (12.00 / 4)
you can darlin'. It'll speed your recovery.  And don't forget the chicken soup!

Thanks for the pic increase.  I'd never had photobucket just arbitrarily crop a picture before.  Kind of made me leery of trying anything else with it.

I had never thought of your quilts in terms of griddlers before but now that you mention it I do see the similarity.  Too bad you can't view some of the multigriddlers all ready done, cause I think they would send you all kinds of inspiration.

The computer is a good addiction to have.  You learn all kinds of things!  :)

The good guys... (13.25 / 4)
...are two of three so far this weekend.

Rutgers 31, Norfolk State 0

Michigan State 38, Western Michigan 14

As for Good Guys Number 3, #11 Oregon is currently beating New Mexico 21-0 in the first quarter.

No confirmation yet on the rumors that all three teams wore chicken suits as uniforms on opening week.  Heh...

Pass me a bottle, Mr. Jones...

Oops... (14.75 / 4)
Now Oregon 28, New Mexico 0.

Still first quarter.

I think the Mercy Rule should come into play here soon...

Pass me a bottle, Mr. Jones...

Wow... (11.75 / 4)
Now it's Oregon 35, New Mexico 0.

A few minutes into the second quarter.

Just brutal.  Somebody should stop this game.  It's like a fighter getting knocked down 5 times by the second round...

Pass me a bottle, Mr. Jones...

[ Parent ]
Omfsm... (12.50 / 4)
Oregon gets the ball back - 1 play, touchdown.  60-something yard pass to Kenjon Barner.

Oregon 42, New Mexico 0.

10 minutes to go in the 2nd quarter.  This is really embarrassing.  Coach Kelly needs to slow things down, seriously.

On pace... (12.00 / 4)
Oregon is on pace to top 1000 yards total offense (and 100 points) at the moment...

49-0... (12.75 / 4)
Holy fsm, a punt return for a TD!

49-0 Oregon, halfway through the 2nd quarter.

Please, somebody stop this!  Im an Oregon fan, and I'm hurting for New Mexico right now!!!

Pass me a bottle, Mr. Jones...

[ Parent ]
59-0, halftime... (9.75 / 4)
Somebody needs to stop this game.  Really...

Pass me a bottle, Mr. Jones...

[ Parent ]

They let up in the second half... (10.50 / 4)
72-0 Oregon, final.

Pass me a bottle, Mr. Jones...

[ Parent ]
You mean they (13.67 / 3)
took out the A team and let the less expert players get a shot, right?

Gha, those are basketball scores...well, Oregon's anyway.

Your addictions... (12.50 / 4)
...are much better than mine.

First was alcohol, which wasn't good at all.

Current is Rutgers football and Blazers basketball blogs.

At least your addictions have a point.

;)

Pass me a bottle, Mr. Jones...

I have other (13.75 / 4)
addictions that aren't so good.

I'm a smoker and plan to keep on smoking.  If I drink I usually binge even though the last 6 years that hasn't been a problem.  I've only drank alcohol a couple of times in that 6 years but managed to keep it to one or two the few times I did.  And the worst addiction, I'm lazy, hence I have the time to do all those puzzles that I tell myself I'm doing to try and sharpen my brain back up.

I'm not a football person but I caught part of the University of Michigan game and they were creaming their opponent 30 to 10 with 4 minutes and something left on the clock.  So it looks like a lot of the games today were a little lopsided, but not quite as badly as that Oregon - New Mexico game. They really should have a mercy rule for that one.
