Together, we can continue to make beautiful things happen!

I'm so excited and honored to host our first anniversary Firefly~Dreaming fund~raiser! Though it seems like we began this journey together just yesterday,  can you believe it's been almost a year since Ria brought Firefly~Dreaming to life for us!?!

and I'm thrilled beyond words for all the amazing folks that have found this beautiful community and decided to stay for a while. the warm hearts, the passionate voices, the common sense advice, the sincere encouragement ~ and most of all, the growing bonds of friendship and sense of family. together, we truly are living up to our mission ~

firefly-dreaming is a state of mind....
that involves less stress, less anger & strife.
it's a different way of looking at problems we find in our world today,
finding alternative solutions & in the process changing the path of status quo...

firefly-dreaming is a place where good things are emphasized, people who are doing it correctly.... organizations that really stand up for ALL humans rights, employee-owned businesses, american owned businesses who have 'old-timey values', who care for their employees &  produce quality products, entrepreneurial bloggers who are trying to follow their dream....

firefly-dreaming is a place where information can be found or shared... tending to aging parents, finding help getting medicine, healthcare & legal help, information on making do with less, gardening, becoming more self-sustainable, getting off the grid, reading a good book, cooking, loneliness, dealing with death of loved ones and births of new family members...

firefly-dreaming is a place where any topic can be discussed & while others may disagree they will remain respectful...

firefly-dreaming is where tolerance & compassion are ever-present, where creative energy combines & multiplies to produce energetic new pathways of thought that lead to creative solutions.....

firefly-dreaming is a place for people to find a little spark of hope, re-kindle the flame within & go forth to pass it on....

Photobucket

this is why I'm so happy to contribute. it's never, ever been an obligation for me, it's my honor to help us keep glowing brightly. it's my sincere hope that all those who are able will join me in financially supporting this wonderful community, and keep us glowing, and growing, through another year.

Photobucket

Firefly~Dreaming's paypal link is HERE
or please contact Ria by email if you would feel more comfortable sending a check.

there's also a great new link on the front page, and it would be wonderful if a few of us could subscribe ~ then there wouldn't be a need for these yearly fund raisers :O)

count me in for $10 a month, Ria... I know that by itself it's not a lot, but together, we can continue to make beautiful things happen.

goal= $250
fundraising

balance $230

this is the least I can do for our firefly family. you bringing this place to life has meant the world to me, and I love you more than I can say for it.

love you guys (15.50 / 6)
I have an early faculty meeting, and I don't know if I'll be able to check back in before my classes tonight, so please forgive me for not being able to respond as I would like.

of course, there's a hoard of shining firefly dreamers that will keep this going!

I know so many of us are going thru some really difficult times financially, but for all those who can afford even a little bit, please donate ~ I'm confident that together we can meet, and even surpass, our first anniversary goal!

If you don't have a paypal account (13.17 / 6)
it is still really easy to donate with a credit card at the link.  I couldn't remember my password into paypal and was still able to do it with a credit card.  The goal here is to pay the bill that comes once a year to keep the site open but if we pass our goal it will help Ria and MrD who has been out of work for a long time.  If we don't pass our goal firefly may not be able to stay open.

So please fireflies dig deep for our home family and the heart of the home Ria.

I can't afford to subscribe (14.83 / 6)
Or, rather, I can't know ahead of time that I'll have even a few bucks to spare at the end of any given month; but I've just made a small donation (and will try to do so on future occasions).

If we all pitch in, no matter how insignificant our individual "widow's mites" - well, there's strength in numbers (or something like that!).

I got nuttin' (8.86 / 7)
So sorry, Ria & all.  :(

Am hoping there's enough left in my account to cover either electric or DSL (whichever comes first) or that neither will come due tomorrow...payday is Friday.

I'm still trying to pay off my back rent from when I was unemployed.  I think I owe the landlord about a month & a half at this point.  Gha!  I hate being poor.

I feel bad... (15.25 / 4)
But I need to net at least $300/week and if I don't work overtime, I don't net that.

Corporate made a mistake last year: they gave me a too-big raise.

But at 40 hours/week I still don't net $300.  So they won't give me another raise, b/c I already got one...but it ain't a living wage.

So I'm stuck.

I think a lot of my fellow citizens are also stuck in exactly this trap.

There is a solution, you know.  It's called tax the rich at 1950s levels and it worked for decades.

O sister (14.00 / 3)
please don't ever feel bad. so many of us have been (are!) walking the same tough road, sometimes I just don't know how we're gonna make it. but one thing's for sure, we're gonna keep walking, and together we'll get through. I'll write to ya over the weekend. love you

Kathleen, that is so generous I don't (15.00 / 4)
know what to say.  I don't.

I borrowed five bucks from the assistant manager today: I will see him & repay him on Saturday.

It just sucks, y'know?  I HATE being poor.  Took me ten years to make it into the middle class on my own, and now I'm back to scraping by.

I hate the GOP & all the Reaganish policies that have destroyed the middle class, to which I used to belong.

Can't imagine why or how any other formerly-middle-class people would vote for the GOP.  Gha -- are they deluded or what?

nuttin'? (14.25 / 4)
nuttin' could be further from the truth, sister... you've got what no amount of money could ever dream to buy ~ your heart, your encouragement, your amazingly unique way of making me bust out laughing, and then keep me smiling about it for days and days :O)

your contribution here goes so far beyond any fund raiser, and I love ya more than I can express. dear friends like you are more precious than anything else in the world

I kicked in $10 earlier today (14.57 / 7)
I wasn't going to post about it for three reasons:

1) It feels like "bragging", and
2) It ain't much, and
3) I didn't do it for "praise".

But I'm about to move to a new city to take a new job after a year of being laid off. I'm keeping my house, and renting an apartment, so I'll be traveling "home" every weekend. I don't know what my after taxes, benefits, and various other deductions will be.

So, I didn't subscribe.

Plus, I have my own blog that I fully support. I can do it cheaply because I ride it on the back of my coffee business, which I no longer am promoting. I won't have time to roast a lot of coffee.

So, what's the message?

I posted this because I want people to know that, no matter what your current position, this is something worth supporting.

RiaD, I absolutely adore you, wish I could do more, but wanted to contribute to this wonderful place.

Hopefully, soon, I'll be able to contribute again to the real mission. Self-sufficiency and sense of community. Sharing knowledge and resources.

I won't be around for the next day or two. I'm packing a UHaul and driving, tomorrow.

I'm gonna miss my kitties.

But you guys will be there.

And PS, Youff, we all love you. Pay your bills, get caught up, and then we can talk about you feeling bad about not donating. Seriously. I have no doubt EVERYONE understands your financial position. I know I do.

(((((Timbuk))))) (12.20 / 5)
wish I could rec what you just wrote a million times, brother. all the way from here, I can feel your heart in every word. please know that you have shining thoughts and warm hugs comin' at ya from all directions as you begin your new journey.
