Tonight's Sunset Open Thread

by: Eddie C

Tue Apr 06, 2010 at 22:26:56 PM EDT

Cross-posted at DailyKos and Docudharma.

Tonight's was a very pleasing sunset. I posted last night's sunset here and today was the opposite of yesterday's. Yesterday was clear and sunny all day with just enough clouds rolling in to add a little mood to sundown. Today was milky and dull until the very late afternoon and the sky cleared as the sun went down.

I get a little excited when the sun is bright but not to bright for digital photos. It is also coming to the time of year that the sunsets directly into my window. That is when the reflections on the water are most dramatic.

So if you can use a soothing visual, then below the fold is how the sun setting over the Hudson in the Bronx looked tonight.

Coming from a walk in the woods, the late afternoon did not seem promising.

And by the time I got home, it was even darker.

Then suddenly! The water is as pleasing as the sky. Notice the jagged reflection of the tree tops.

The clouds return as the reflection narrows.

Then a softened reflection.

And a golden glow.

With feathers above.

Now the view gets really good.

Finally sundown.

And one last ray of light.

And some afterglow before the darkness.

ooooh, lovely (8.00 / 5)
What kind of flowers are they?  That first one is really exquisite -- well, they all are, but it's especially exquisite.

English usage is sometimes more than mere taste, judgment and education - sometimes it's sheer luck, like getting across the street.

I only know the top two (8.00 / 4)
The one on top is Ranunculus ficaria and the middle photo is Scilla siberica.

I'll be showing you a couple of million Ranunculus ficarias this weekend.

Looking forward to it, Eddie! (8.00 / 3)

The bottom flower is an aberration of the top one.
