I'm at Readercon, a small SF/fantasy convention devoted to the written word rather than filmed SF/fantasy, fannish culture, filking, costuming, and so on. I've been to a couple of panels (one good, one pretty much a fawnfest over an author who was touted as having written a groundbreaking book (gay heroes) even though one even more radical (gay/bisexual/polyamorous heroes) was written ten full years earlier. I kept my mouth shut instead of asking for an explanation, which seemed to be more the fanboy interviewing the author moderator's fault than the author, because I wasn't there to provoke anyone, but man oh man, it wasn't easy AT ALL. |

| I also found myself feeling completely lost in the dealers' room. Not only hadn't I read many of the books for sale, I hadn't even heard of the authors. It was pretty discouraging in some ways, realizing that the field has passed me by to that extent. :(
OTOH, Siren is doing pretty well. Her appetite is good, she's walking with only a small limp, and she actually stood up on her hind legs and keenly observed the squirrels on the deck. I'm taking it day by day, but so far, so good.
And now I'm off to the con again, possibly to meet up with Walter and his wife for dinner, possibly just to hang out. There's a reading I want to go to at 8:00, plus a couple of parties, so I may or may not get back in time to post Books So Bad They're Good before midnight. However, it's written and queued at DKos, so never fear.....
