Tuesday's Gloaming

by: Eddie C

Tue Apr 13, 2010 at 20:27:55 PM EDT

On the day of the Yankees opener there was another surprise sunset in the Bronx. During the afternoon the sky was so dreary that it seemed a possible rain out. I enjoyed the way the late afternoon clearing came even more than the sunset. The clearing came quick and the sun turned strong for sundown.

If you like, then you can follow the clearing below.

Eddie C :: Tuesday's Gloaming
From an obscured day to the clouds just deciding to go downriver for sunset.

I like this shot. I wish you could see the strong direct sunlight on the ship to the right.

The clouds keep moving south as the sun peeks out for the first time since morning.

Clouds to the left of me, blue sky to the right here I am. Stuck in the middle with you.

Then golden sunshine.

Going...

Going...

Going...

Gone.

Have a great Humpday.

Fantastic sunset pictures, as usual, Eddie C! (14.20 / 5)
Keep up the great work!

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Did you see the responce at DD? (10.00 / 4)
Crashed and burned. It wasn't a pretty picture.

But you've gotta love those Cheerer and Jeerers.

[ Parent ]
no. (13.67 / 3)
i looked for it...maybe i overlooked it at dd.
i'm sorry these are not going over well there.
it may be because you put 'x-posted to firefly'

oh well but... (14.40 / 5)
This just in! At 9 0'clock (at least here) it sounds like Frontline is taking Obama out back behind the woodshed.

A sobering look at the push to reform health care, revealing the realities of American politics, the power of special interest groups and the role of money in policy making.

This is a tough call for me Frontline or Lost. If I didn't have such an early call in the morning I'd go for both but I'm hitting the sack at ten.

reconsidering (14.25 / 4)
it may be because everyone is so involved in the meta of dd/dkos....

we did have some people come from cheers & jeers & look in...
& poligirl has joined....

I posted a really good meta comment there (9.20 / 5)
Well I thought it was

This happened to me last week.

Someone had posted a "Top Comment" and I read it but the comment referred to someone named "she." I clicked "parent" over and over but never got to who she was so I posted a comment in Top Comments asking "Who she is?"

The Kossack answered me in an email. She was another kossack. I had another email opened and by mistake I replied to the New York Botanical Garden media department with;

Oh meta stuff. Ever since everything became Jane Hamsher's fault I refuse to read what one blogger has to say about or how they react to another blogger. But that just me, I never knew that blogging was about blogging. I thought it was all about the other 308 million Americans. One of the main reasons I've backed off is the personality wars.

What was really amazing was that even thought the letter I replied to from the NYBG was about Emily Dickinson's Garden: The Poetry of Flowers, I got a response about how much they agreed with me as to where political blogging has gone.

I had a good laugh. If the New York Botanical Garden knows how much DailyKos is circling the drain, then the stupidity is well known.

superb! (14.60 / 5)
& yes, that is why i backed away also.
i'm trying to find solutions to problems that face us all.

in a round about way that's why i started this place.
where being nice is first & foremost....
then we can speak about issues.
as karma (& others have) said- disagree & not be disagreeable.
to me this is the only way to....
converse
problem solve
exchange ideas
build on others ideas...

you have to leave ego outside & come with an open mind & heart

& now i must say g'nite...
parting is such sweet sorrow.........

i'd like to put a link to your work under "brilliant entrepreneurial bloggers"
if not, would you like to do an essay on your work & i could link to that?

at any rate... it's lovely to see you again my friend
hope you'll come by more often!

Must go to bed now. (15.00 / 5)
Will respond tomorrow after work.

Hi Ria. (10.50 / 4)
I used to have a site at Etsy.com called Cuivre River turning but I haven't done anything with it in over a year and I'm pretty sure it's been deleted by now due to inactivity.
For me, woodturning has never been about making money, and if I ever did, I'm afraid I wouldn't want to do it anymore. Then again, maybe I'm completely wrong about that and selling them could be the best thing to ever happen to me. Yes, I'm a very conflicted person. :*)

What I do know for sure is that right now I am going through a period where I almost don't care if I ever turn another bowl or take another photograph ever again. I had to force myself to get out and take photos of the sunset last Sunday. Ya see, after I got through that thing with my union last month, for a couple weeks everything was great. The house got cleaned, I finished up 2 woodturnings that had been sitting for awhile, and spring sprung and I got a few nice photographs. Then I got a letter from the bastards saying that the penalty had been doubled and I've been feeling nothing but pissed off since. I know I could probably get by by cheating but the idea of being less than honest just doesn't sit well with me. Why can't they just leave me (us) alone? What I do after work is none of their business!

[ Parent ]
O! (14.33 / 3)
shit! i'd be very pissed too. ver ver pissed!!
no it isn't any of their business what you do in your off hours!
djeeze!
& i can understand how that would affect other areas of your life...
especially the creative side.

i'm not sure that a little promo here would bring you scads of orders, but i was just trying to promote the creativity of my friends & blogging neighbors...
whenever you're ready i'll be happy to link to either an etsy-type thing or an essay you write...
but even if you don't want a promo here, i'd really love to see a post on your bowls.
those i've seen are just superb...like nothing i've seen anywhere else. i'd love for the other fireflys to see them & hear about how you take a hunk of wood & turn it into something not only unique & beautiful but also very useful.

Great shot! (14.80 / 5)
Tonight's sunset was too lame for a diary.

but today in Central Park was pretty spectacular.

[ Parent ]
WOW that bridge (15.00 / 4)

And I just did a pimp job (11.50 / 4)

In Open Thread. Usually I never hit up Open Thread with so many photos but it ends with a link back.

See if that does anything.

I love the way (14.40 / 5)
the sunlight gives the water a textured look.

I get to see that around here, but not from above anymore.  Having an overhead view of the Detroit River and Lake Erie is one of the things I miss about mine and hubbys first apartment.  We had an upper flat and a gorgeous view.  Now I have to settle for looking at it from ground level.

Me too (14.20 / 5)
But just during this time of year (and going back down river in September) when the sun comes directly in my window, I especially love the the way the edges of the trees are traced in the water.

Notice that the sun is north of the steeple now. Go back a few days and see how fast the sun is racing north. It's pretty cool.

[ Parent ]
this is a feast (14.40 / 5)
for the eyes and spirit, Eddie. thank you.
