Occupy Missoula Needs IMMEDIATE HELP

PARTICIPATE: Locate Occupy Events in YOUR area--WORLDWIDE!!

PARTICPATE NOV 24: Occupied Thanks Giving
Plan to cook ONE extra VEGETABLE, BREAD OR DESSERT dish this Thanksgiving & deliver it to YOUR Local Occupy by 2pm.

****PARTICIPATE NOV 25: Blanket the Earth
The idea: on November 25, the day after Thanksgiving, people will gather in designated spots in cities around the country where there are encampments of OWS protesters.
They will have warm weather gear to donate to the protesters. This can be blankets, socks, sleeping bags, hand and foot warmers, sweaters, or anything you think can be used to keep the camping protesters warm throughout the winter. The items can be secondhand (and clean, you know). New items can be purchased whenever, preferably not on the exploitative day coined by marketers as "Black Friday."
The goal here is to show our support not just through the kindness of monetary donations, but by being physically present to demonstrate that we're here for the protesters.
Blanket the Earth at Facebook

PARTICIPATE NOV 25 (& throughout the holiday season): OCCUPY BLACK FRIDAY
Let's take a day that is all about consumption and make it our own, and let's make it loud and clear that we will not support the corporations that destroyed our economy and undermined our Republic.Instead of a "Buy Nothing Day" we'll have a "Buy Local Day." Instead of buying a bunch of useless crap, let's instead go out and help the poor. Volunteer at soup kitchens and host toy drives and do the other charitable things that the government refuses to do. A season of giving instead of a season of buying.

***********some interesting bits i found ******************

Occupy protests:Support mom-pop

Occupy protesters want shoppers to occupy something besides door-buster sales and crowded mall parking lots on Black Friday.

Some don't want people to shop at all. Others just want to divert shoppers from big chains and giant shopping malls to local mom-and-pops. And while the actions don't appear coordinated, they have similar themes: supporting small businesses while criticizing the day's dedication to conspicuous consumption and the shopping frenzy that fuels big corporations.

The Homeless Serving The Homeless

I think we've all had those times where the rug has been pulled out from underneath you.  In my case it was multiple rugs, a Persian carpet store if you will.  I was going through a divorce; I lost my job, got evicted from my apartment and was sleeping in my car in a Starbucks parking lot in Beverly Hills.  Stupidity, pride and his good friend ego had kept me from reaching out and asking for help from my family or anyone else for that matter.

The Occupy Wall Street protests scare the status quo enough to contemplate wholesale PR sabotage.

Inspired by the Arab Spring demonstrations in Tahir Square, Cairo, Egypt, they sought to replicate the symbolism of those uprisings and to emulate the consensus decision making of the 5-M Indignants Movement protests happening in Spain. Beginning with one isolated demand - a presidential commission to separate money from politics - the global protest phenomenon called "Occupy Wall Street" has emerged in just a few short months, a populist movement that has successfully reframed the discussion about the global impact of corporate dominion and the economic inequities that it creates.

Occupy Sugar Land newest protest group

"I'm here because in Sugar Land, sometimes we don't pay attention to what is happening not only in the rest of the state, but in the rest of the country," said Nancy Henshel, a principal member of the local movement. "Now I want everybody to know, because I live in Sugar Land, that I am a capitalist, but I'm a simple capitalist," she said. "I'm not for a predatory capitalistic system that takes advantage of people not only locally, but in the community at large."

Diplomacy doesn't get a holiday on Occupy Thanksgiving

It turns out that getting an RSVP from Occupy D.C. is at least as complicated as getting an RSVP from any organization in Washington.

Inviting revolutionaries - especially revolutionaries without formal leadership - to Thanksgiving dinner would require an understanding of newly created principles, navigating an ad hoc democracy amid blue tarps, trudging among encampments and weaving between young idealists and old idealists. Then waiting to see who showed up.

Occupy protests put spotlight on police tactics

Police efforts to break up Occupy encampments in Northern California and elsewhere have led to investigations, apologies and lawsuits. And now the soul-searching: Why did some officers use what is being described as excessive force, wielding batons and pepper spray, against apparently peaceful protesters?

Wales: Views of Cardiff's Occupy camp

After a first camp outside Cardiff Castle lasted less than six hours, protesters belonging to the global Occupy movement have established a more permanent home on a corner of one of the city centre's busiest junctions.

Scotland: Protesters stage own dawn raid on border police headquarters

The direct action was sparked by the forced deportation of several families in recent months. It was organised by The Unity Centre, a Glasgow-based solidarity centre for asylum seekers, along with the No Borders Network.

They were joined by smaller groups such as the Govan and Craigton Integration Network and members of the Occupy Glasgow movement. In all, around 60 people turned out to support yesterday's action, bearing banners with slogans such as "End Dawn Raids", "Stop the Snatch Squads" and "Nae Borders". Strathclyde Police deployed around 25 officers.

OMG, Ria! THIS: (5.00 / 2)
http://www.dailykos.com/story/...

is some of the best satire I have seen in a long, long, long time.

I don't think it's snark, at all.  It strikes me as satire in the classic sense, and it's absolutely brilliant.

P.S. I must check out your (16.00 / 2)
newspaper.  I have never successfully been able to link to anything at Orange without pasting in the code...I mean, I can't type, for example, "check this out" and have it turn up as a clickable link.  I've tried more than once...going back and forth to the FAQ to make sure the code is absolutely right...and I can't see anything different...but it never has worked for me.  And then I get frustrated and give up.

Muskegon Critic, for example, has a sig line that reads "Look!  I have a blog!" and the whole sig line is a coded link to his blog.

So I know it CAN be done...just not by me.  (Have I mentioned lately that everything about software is counterintuitive to me?)

The point is, I would like to code a link to your All Things Occupy newspaper in my sig line.  Mine is kinda stale by now anyway, although still appropriate -- y'know, Bill Maher's quote about Dems moving to the right and the GOP moving into an insane asylum.

How would I do that?  In English, not in FAQ?  Or would you prefer that I just link to Firefly's home page?  Your call...but I think I really can't do it myself.  I have never understood what I was doing wrong & suspect that they leave out a step that seems so obvious everyone must know it, but I don't.  Nothing about coding is obvious to me.

do like this (15.50 / 2)
type exactly this (or copy/paste)

<a href="http://paper.li/DreamerFirefly/1321682009">fer Fawkes Sake OCCUPY!</a>

you CAN put different words in rather than the 'papers' name, just make sure it's between the less than & greater than signs.

how high would the gallows need to be to hang the rich man?"

uh...WHICH less than or greater than (11.50 / 2)
signs?  I see a greater than after that long number in the middle, but no less than sign to open it, except of course, the one at the very beginning.

I know you know how to do this, but I don't, and I don't see either the paper's name, or where I could put something else in without wrecking the coding.

I am a dolt when it comes to this stuff, Ria.  It would be easier to replace a disk drive.  I know how to use a screwdriver, LOL.

For now, I pasted it in.  I'm going to go over there and see whether it worked...have to write a comment to find out.  Wonder whether there's a convenient troll diary, LOL.

P.S., Ria, it WORKED!!! (16.00 / 2)
It says (as I'm sure you know) "for fawkes sake, OCCUPY!" and it's a clickable link to your paper.  (Cool site, that!)  So, it's now my official sig line at Orange.  And I might even click on the "Try Hulu Free" ad just to get you some extra cash, assuming that ad is still there when I have the time to watch something...like on a day off.

Now all I have to do is find an image for an avatar smaller than the smallest postage stamp (at least, on my monitor) that is still recognizably...something.  What would be an appropriate avatar for someone whose screen name is Youff, I wonder...?

If you have any suggestions for an eentsy-weentsy avatar image, I'm all eyes.  It's a 22 pixel square.  IOW, almost invisible.

Hey Ria (13.33 / 3)
Sorry I kind of bailed for a couple weeks on wwl, here and elsewhere...

I just am having focus problems right now with the holidays starting.

Big Time.

I mean, I try and distract myself with mindless humor on fb, and babble, but I'm kind of shorting out mentally right now, emotionally really.

I do appreciate these posts and miss them, and hope you didn't feel I was ignoring you. I was ignoring everything but my manual labor and staving off the pain.

Still love me?

Oh, {{{{{Diane}}}}} (13.00 / 2)
I can't speak for Ria, but I'm sure she wishes you nothing but the best, as do I.

So very sorry you're having a rough time of it right now.  I hope you'll feel better soon.

I'm gearing up (16.00 / 3)
for our first Holidays without Mike... the end of Oct was his birthday, and now he had Thanksgiving alone - and xmas lurks.

The 1st year, they say, is the toughest. I suppose it is... right now, I'm struggling with it, so is Jake.

Thanks Youff :)

naw (15.50 / 2)
i bailed on you
it seemed you were really the only one interested ....
& it got to be too much, x-ing to too many places.
so i stopped everywhere but but here and edgers
& then i found a 'paper' i could set up
http://paper.li/DreamerFirefly...

& automated it just as i reached burn-out stage.
it's been all i can do to get the truncated version of OWS out now.

i hope the holidays slip by easily.
i found the dreading was way worse than the actual.
just enjoy each moment & know that next year this will be just a pleasant memory
& you'll wonder why you were aprehensive over it.

Oh I don't think I was (15.00 / 1)
louise, MA and Elian all were reading it regularly. They just don;t comment much. Ma's RA hurts so bad she can't type, and Elian had an eye problem going, so has a program that "reads" stuff to him, but never worked out the voice to type software for the visually impaired.

Louise is just quiet.

But I understand. I do miss them though.
