As we struggle in this life to be an inspiration to our kids and the kids around us, it is in their eyes we have hope so, I have been thinking.....
There are many passages in their lives that are a big deal. I think college graduation is one of them. It is a monumental achievement and a step forward into the next phase of their lives. Where a kid goes from this point is totally in their hands, if mom and dad helped them through with financial support or not this is the time to say you are on your own, fly baby bird fly.
I am very close to my friends kids. They have been in and out of our home all their lives. Two of them are graduating from college this spring!!! Both girls, both are going to take this world by a storm! I am so excited for them.
My gift to college grads (a tradition I started years ago) is a couple of children's books. I love children's books and feel our most important lessons in life are taught in them, simply, all wrapped up in beautiful illustrations.
The two I am giving each of these girls this year are........

| Kathleen :: Gifts for College Graduation, just wondering......... |
Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge (Public Television Storytime Books) [Paperback]
Mem Fox(Author), Julie Vivas (Illustrator)
This tender little book is a classic in my library and I have given it more times than I can count. The illustrator is my favorite and without her I can't even imagine the book. It is the sweetest story about a little boy who lives next door to an old folks home and his friendship with these elderly people. The story centers around Wilfrid's efforts to help one of his friends capture her memories.
The Little Soul and the Sun: A Children's Parable Adapted from Conversations With God
Neale Donald Walsch (Author) Frank Riccio (Illustrator)
I have talked a lot about this book on the blogs. It has the most powerful lessons in it about forgiveness. How we deal with forgiveness in this life can make or break us, so this is one I highly recommend!
There are few passages in life that are a privilege to witness: a birth, a death, a marriage, achievements, and graduations on many levels. The aborigines in Australia do not celebrate birthdays (dates that just happen because you are alive) they celebrate achievements that take a person from one phases of life into another. I like this because these are our true birthdays.
So today I am wondering........
What gifts of inspiration do you give when someone you love accomplishes greatness that takes them into a new phase of their lives?
What children's books for all ages do you love?
What's for dinner?
I want to also share with you a wonderful little website I have found that has a page on children's books but also other delightful ideas about food and places to go things to do with kids. Gwyneth Paltrow's website.
