Two For Tuesday: Open Thoughts

by: Eddie C

Tue May 25, 2010 at 02:00:00 AM EDT

Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose a three-piece suit on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourselves. Choose your future. Choose life... But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life. I chose somethin' else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you've got heroin?

Now I've justified this to myself in all sorts of ways. It wasn't a big deal, just a minor betrayal. Or we'd outgrown each other, you know, that sort of thing. But let's face it, I ripped them off - my so called mates. But Begbie, I couldn't give a shit about him. And Sick Boy, well he'd done the same to me, if he'd only thought of it first. And Spud, well okay, I felt sorry for Spud - he never hurt anybody. So why did I do it? I could offer a million answers - all false. The truth is that I'm a bad person. But, that's gonna change - I'm going to change. This is the last of that sort of thing. Now I'm cleaning up and I'm moving on, going straight and choosing life. I'm looking forward to it already. I'm gonna be just like you. The job, the family, the fucking big television. The washing machine, the car, the compact disc and electric tin opener, good health, low cholesterol, dental insurance, mortgage, starter home, leisure wear, luggage, three piece suite, DIY, game shows, junk food, children, walks in the park, nine to five, good at golf, washing the car, choice of sweaters, family Christmas, indexed pension, tax exemption, clearing gutters, getting by, looking ahead, to the day you die.

You need the intro.

Before you ride this Cowgirl.

And since it is all just a repetitive ostinato, you might as well enjoy it.

For a trip to the Underworld you really need a little (15.00 / 3)

Or perhaps you think I need (15.00 / 2)

But here is what I'm looking at now (14.75 / 4)

These get my imagination going (15.00 / 4)

Beautiful, Eddie C! (15.00 / 5)

help (13.00 / 3)
i updated adobe, and set security to allow everything from firefly, and now i can see empty boxes where the videos ought to be, which is a step in the right direction, but I STILL CANT SEE VIDEOS! does anyone know how to fix this?

[ Parent ]
ha!! (15.00 / 3)
i turned off zone alarm and now they work, but i dont like being all unprotected just to see video... there MUST be a better way!

[ Parent ]
I don't remember the settings for Zone Alarm (15.00 / 3)
But there was a way when I used it. I now use this free program called No Script where the settings are much easier to find.

In No Script you just double click on the video. Will that work in Zone Alarm?

[ Parent ]
I dunno... (15.00 / 3)
I have ZoneAlarm & can see all vids.

This diary is a dedication to Danny Boyle (15.00 / 3)
Danny Boyle has now won the the Academy Award for Best Director but long before Slumdog Millionaire he has been introducing me to new and daring music. All the way back during Shallow Grave it was obvious this man had a new way of integrating music into movie plots. It was in Tranispotting  that I discovered Underworld and so man other interesting bands.

Danny Boyle also introduced me to John Murphy, from 28 Days Later;

And from Sushine;

But when it comes to soundtracks (15.00 / 3)

I think this one is a masterpiece.

Oddly enough, like Trainspotting, it was also a movie about heroin.

Okay now, time for a nice walk in the sunshine (15.00 / 3)

Have a nice day.

Well Eddie (15.00 / 3)
the only one I can handle is the moon.  The rest feel like doom on warp speed.

I couldn't even dance to the Absurd.  :o)  Not today......

Lets get up and feel some love!

Time for Jack.......

klezmer tomorrow, Eddie (15.00 / 3)
but for now, Crashing Vor is saying what I've been thinking for the past three weeks:

Go ahead and boom, go on and dredge up some islands.  And for god's sake get some cement or golf balls or a pony nuke or something into that hole.  Maybe it will keep the millionth gallon out of the marsh.  But do not deceive yourselves.  This is done.

Determining fault will not stop that, though it must be done.  Suing the responsible parties into the poor house, though needed to compensate the legions of people robbed by this gooey monster, will not save one fish.  Pandora can't close that box.

You cannot save the Gulf.  But you can make its death mean something.

The Gulf is dead. (12.75 / 4)
The Gulf has been dead for at least the past two weeks.

Gha, I hope I'm wrong...but I doubt it.

And let's ignore our current politicians, shall we?  The most trenchant comment came from a stupid GOPer twenty years ago:

It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it.
-- Dan Quayle

Here this makes a nice closer (15.00 / 3)

Okay, folks, here we go: (15.00 / 4)
I've made it a point to avoid news about the overally state of the world as much as possible, as wierd and abnormal as that may sound.

Aziza's doing fine-her cage is covered and she's asleep.  I covered her cage right after I got home from seeing a special documentary film called "What's on your Plate?:"  This movie is a documentary about efforts to bring organically-grown produce into NYC's non-white communities, which often have the highest incidence of hypertension, obesity, diabetes, and even high cholestrol, even in children.  In the end, the kids and adults cooked a huge, healthy organic foods dinner and invited everybody who'd helped make the movie to come and eat.  It was a fun movie, rather thought-provoking, and a way to make people think about changing from fast-food diets, which are all too often, big staples of  American life, particularly in today's dog-eat-dog world.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

WOW that is awesome Miki (11.75 / 4)
I am putting it on my list to see.  I had heard about this but I didn't know they had made a movie.

Billionaires for Bush (12.67 / 3)
has changed its name (slightly) but not its message.  This one is kind of long, but well worth watching: especially for the closing credits:

I love these guys (14.50 / 4)

Sometimes I wish (14.67 / 3)
I could be a billionaire for wealth care: What with the sense of humor & the in-your-face politics...it's sorta me.  Except I'm too shy & scared (& can't sing as well as they do).

497,141 Americans filed for bankruptcy (14.00 / 4)
...in 2007 because of medical bills.

"It's a start."

Freakin' genius.

[ Parent ]
Yeah... (13.75 / 4)
I kinda wish I could join them, but I don't think I could pull off the elegant dresses & heels.  (Silk slacks & chemise, I can do!  With Italian leather ankle-high boots...)  But damn they're good.  Like you said above: great street theater.

One more... (9.67 / 3)
I promise it's the last one:

If I've posted this before (13.75 / 4)
Please forgive me. I think it's the finest song/poetry ever. I played it in the care on the way to my father's funeral. I want it played at mine. It should be played at weddings. It's a joyous song, nearly commanding us to live our lives in happiness. "Go for it!" Make your mistakes, forgive yourself, and move on. Drink the cup of laughter.

While there is time let's go out and feel everything
If you hold me I will let you into my dream
For time is a river rolling into nowhere
We must live while we can
And we'll drink our cup of laughter

Chorus:

The finer things keep shining through
The way my soul gets lost in you
The finer things I feel in m
The golden dance life could be

Oh, I've been sad
And have walked bitter streets alone
And come morning
There's a good wind to blow me home
So time is a river rolling into nowhere
I will live while I can
I will have my ever after

The finer things keep shining through
The way my soul gets lost in you
The finer things I feel in me
The golden dance life could be

We go so fast, why don't we make it last
Life is glowing inside you and me
Please take my hand, here where     I stand
Won't you come out and dance with me
Come see, with me, come see

And lovers try
'Til they get the best of the night
And come morning
They are tangled up in the light
So time be a river rolling into nowhere
They love while they can
And they think about the night so sweet

The finer things keep shining through
The way my soul gets lost in you
The finer things I feel in me
The golden dance life could be

love that (15.00 / 2)
thank you!
