Obese kookaburra given personal trainer

By The Telegraph UK
Published: June 2, 2010

The native Australian bird got into trouble with its weight when residents at a Sydney park began feeding her meat from the barbecues.

The porky kookaburra weighed in at 1.2 pounds, nearly 40 per cent heavier than a normal adult bird, rendering it so unfit that it couldn't fly.

"Out in the wild she'd eat a whole small animal such as a mouse or skink (lizard), but butcher's sausages are just too much of a good thing"

Dog travels 15 miles home across motorway and moorland

A lost dog was reunited with its owners after a marathon 31-hour trek that took the mongrel across the M1, four major A roads and miles of treacherous moorland. In a story reminiscent of 1940s film Lassie Come Home, a family who had given up their whippet-terrier cross Jack for dead looked outside to find him asleep on their doorstep.

Kitten survives wash and spin in a washing machine

Reuters
Sydney, Australia - A Persian kitten gave her owners the shock of their lives when she emerged from the washing machine, dizzy and bedraggled after surviving a full cycle."

Man marries pillow

Tom Phillips - 4th May, 2010
True love can take many forms. In this case, it has taken the form of a Korean man falling in love with, and eventually marrying, a large pillow with a picture of a woman on it.

Ram-bo

Photobucket

This hapless sheep has become a real life 'ram-bo' after inadvertently abseiling down a hill when its horn became snagged on an electricity wire.

The unfortunate sheep was spotted bleating for help more than 15 feet above the ground next to an telegraph pole.

Amazed onlookers watched the ram descend from a grazing pasture - apparently accidentally - while dangling from a live wire.

The hypnotherapist cat
BBC

The regulation of hypnotherapists in the UK is so lax that even a cat can become accredited, the BBC has found.

Chris Jackson, presenter of Inside Out in the North East and Cumbria, registered pet George with three industry bodies.

Each one accepted a certificate from the non-existent Society of Certified Advanced Mind Therapists as proof of George's credentials.

Mystery rodent scurries by as Obama lauds Wall Street vote

WASHINGTON (AP)
In the midst of his battle with the titans of Wall Street, President Obama was nearly upstaged by a rodent.

Obama had just begun a Rose Garden statement lauding the end of a Senate filibuster on his financial overhaul when some kind of rodent dashed out of the bushes to his right, just outside the Oval Office.

Poll: 1 in 3 women say pets listen better than husbands

LOS ANGELES (AP)
A third of pet-owning married women in the U.S. said their pets are better listeners than their husbands, according to an Associated Press-Petside.com poll released Wednesday.

Eighteen percent of pet-owning married men said their pets are better listeners than their wives.

What a fantastic idea (13.50 / 4)
This gives me something to look forward to reading this evening.

Time to take Katie now and then back to working on the tub.  Hubby is helping this time which means extra stuff, some easier some not.

This is great newp (13.67 / 3)
A breath of fresh air or more accurately, an atmosphere where relaxing and breathing is possible.

The overweight kookaburra, reminds me of my grandsows.  We have them on an exercise program where I chase them all over the diningroom hoping they don't have a heart attack.

The sheep made out pretty good.  I love that they gave him access to the ladies.  :)

Thank you brother, just what I needed.  :)

One little correction.  Thats Donalds Uncle, Scrooge McDuck, the rich cheapskate.  In this instance his cheapness is doing good.  :)

gha! (10.33 / 3)
I can't believe I missed the spectacles ~ and here I was thinking I was a duck tales fan!!!

Gha, all kinds of cute (12.33 / 3)
He is getting some meat on his bones.  He must drink all the time, which leads to...when you have a drinking pattern like he does, well its gotta come out.  LOL  Or maybe he just wants to let us know his plumbing is working fine so we don't worry.

He is such a Sweet Dreamer, and brings the dreamer back out in me.

And BTW I think he was trying to come see me through the camera.  ;)

Thank you so much brother.  He's like a massive stress relieving drug for me.

[ Parent ]
you warm my heart, sister (15.00 / 3)
and I'm so happy that our little dreamer warms yours. how are all the babies on your end?

The babies are good (12.50 / 2)
I think Emmett is putting on a little weight and if he gains enough they might take his tumors out.  For now his pain meds are still keeping him happy.  The piggies get really happy when I bring them cilantro and green leaf lettuce from the garden.  The wheak their heads off and wake Katie up while I'm rinsing it off.  Pretty soon the chard will be big enough to start picking and they love that.

The cats are a little pissed that I haven't been spending as much time with them since Spring got here, but they haven't done to much stuff to show their displeasure.  A few hairballs strategically placed but mainly they just sit in an open window or doorway and meow at me.

[ Parent ]
alright, Emmett!!! (8.00 / 2)
sure hope he puts on enough weight, and then everything goes perfectly with his surgery! and I can almost hear them all excited and wheaking for their greens  :O)

I gave up on trying to figure out my cats... they only really pay me any attention when I open a can of tuna once in a while, then they're my bestest friends in the whole wide world! well, except for Lulo, who thinks my back is his bed every night...

I'm like (9.50 / 2)
a cat magnet.  I almost always have one in my lap or by my feet. They follow me around constantly and cry when I'm not home. And at bedtime I have them all.  Ku lays by my head or on Waynes side, Ro and Pa alternate by season, I kid you not, favored spot at my side where they get the most petting and the other lays at my feet.  Ro takes the spot fall and winter and Pa has spring and summer.  Now the other will sneak in if the other moves for some reason.  It took me about 3 years before I caught on to their seasonal pattern.

(apologies, newp: I couldn't resist)
