FIREFLY PEDALING

Tonight, I decided I needed to be distracted myself, so I went out at 4:30 this afternoon with my iPod on, my camera, & went riding my bicycle on the street.
Thinking I`d get away from the catastrophe in the gulf & the murderous piracy in the sea off Gaza, the first thing I saw was a snake. A snake in the grass. I thought of the CEO of BP immediately, then shut those thoughts down, called the little twins & their dad (they were getting in their car) over to see The Snake, then put bad thoughts out of my mind.
I caught this also, with which I decided to start over again.

Have a nice weekend, & if I forgot anybody`s comment in last week`s post, I apologize.
I was having a 3 day yard sale, & it took up a lot more time than I expected.
It is a great way though, to meet new friends, reconnect with old ones & get the news on acquaintances you`d not heard from lately, plus... you get rid of all your crap.

Love the flowers (15.00 / 4)
Day lilies, irises & cactus blossoms are particular favorites of mine: how did you know?

;-D

English usage is sometimes more than mere taste, judgment and education - sometimes it's sheer luck, like getting across the street.

I was showing off my cactus blossoms to passersby on Monday.
One shot I didn`t get a few days ago, was of a weasel/stoat/mink that I spotted & talked to from about 15 feet away & for about thirty seconds.
I shall try to shoot it, photographically of course, in the coming days. I was too immersed in my music, & forgot my camera. Today I caught the snake, in the same coincidental type meeting.
Always have a camera ready, a lesson I always teach but not always follow. (to all our detriment, I might add).
I hope you are well.

Yes, I'm well, thanks for asking (15.00 / 4)
When I was in fifth or sixth grade, we moved to a house in the 'burbs where the previous owners had a bunch of different flowers planted in circles in the yard.

My father -- who always wanted a perfect lawn! -- took them out.

But one of the circles had a hardy prickly pear cactus in it.  I always loved that plant, and it's a reason why I'm such a cactus aficionado even today.  Cacti are gorgeous.  Succulents are kinda fun too, imho.

English usage is sometimes more than mere taste, judgment and education - sometimes it's sheer luck, like getting across the street.

PS: Who knew (15.00 / 4)
that you could grow prickly pear cacti in PA?  I mean, in your backyard?

I didn't, until we moved there.  But apparently there's a species that's either native here, or -- if not native -- can tolerate the weather here.

I have to constantly remind myself, especially when I espouse "mellowness" as a way of life, myself.

beautiful photos (15.00 / 4)
I've had to do the reset thing a lot lately, too.

That looks like a Gopher Snake, I think...

Thank you.
I`ll take this time to also express my gratitude for your last comment about my daughter in my last posting.
She had not much choice I think, but to learn how to have a discerning eye.
She had only me to show her the way (not much of a statement) since her mom died before she was three.
She had to "see" how I was treated & my reactions to those too familiar occasions, & absorb some of it to be who she is today, & what her daughters are now.
We are all the sum of our experiences, no matter what kind of math we use to arrive at the total.

Yes, that is a Gopher snake.
Here`s another place I go to reboot occasionally.
A pond I built for some friends/clients.

Circles (15.00 / 4)
Circles, cycles, an ancient math that makes the the world go 'round... Very very nice (and I don't use very very much, it's really only very rarely useful) pond and photos.

3 + 5 + 10 + 11 + 14 + 15 = comment ratings for the above = 58

What do those numbers represent.
Or am I simply ignorant.

numbers... (15.00 / 2)
next to the "reply" link on each comment on the right is a white box with a drop-down arrow. if you hit the arrow you will see "ratings" with numbers beside them

thank you for beauty in the midst of so much sadness

I hope all is well with your partner & your menagerie.
I always try to look for the brighter side of night.
I`ve learned to acquiesce to sadness, since there is no removing it everywhere.
I think I have to do my share, especially given the uneven distribution of pain on this blue dot.

thanks, knucklehead (14.00 / 3)
the animals are well, and right now I'm waiting for J to finish chemo for today. He's done with radiation, so at least one less demon to battle.
He's hanging in there, and we'll someday look back on this as a golden memory of struggle and victory
