FIREFLY LYING

(- our hearts with the people of the Gulf - promoted by newpioneer)

Since last week, I decided that until the oil gusher in the gulf was stopped, my image posts would be exclusively about underwater life.
I know BP has been distracting us all to keep our eyes away from what`s really happening, especially with the use of dispersants, which hide the extent of the amount spilled from the surface view.
What many of you may not know is that the dispersant in the water column, is maybe even more dangerous to subsurface life than is the oil.
Here is a series of images not necessarily native to the gulf, but you get the picture.
All this would soon be dead if it was in the gulf.

FIREFLY CRYING (15.00 / 8)
Have a nice weekend.
And try to find a place in your heart for the sad people on the gulf coast,
who`s lives are in turmoil.

(((knucklehead))) (13.71 / 7)
amazing tribute. if only our tears could heal the damage

It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see. ~ Thoreau ... and, do no harm

Newpioneer (13.50 / 4)
I believe if that were possible, it would come back pristine & there would not be a rig in the gulf.

what a fabulous way (14.29 / 7)
to keep this in peoples minds... at the forefront not deep in the recesses.

i keep hoping the outrage will build, the public will put up a hue & cry
& demand BP's assets be frozen & used to pay for every available resource to be put to work closing this gusher, cleaning up the oil, restocking the gulf with life using as much local labor as possible.....& demanding that there will be NO. MORE. offshore. drilling. period.

thank you for these beautiful images 'head
♥~

"Indeed, if a poor man will spend a year in prison for stealing out of hunger,
how high would the gallows need to be to hang the rich man?"
~The Patrician in 'Snuff' by Terry Pratchett

Alas...even if we could (15.00 / 5)
take ALL of BP's money worldwide...it will not stop this gusher.  It might pay for a lot of cleanup & give the Gulf states some income...but the only thing that will stop the gusher is a relief well.  Best estimate I've read about: August.

Don't get me wrong: I want BP out of business with all due haste.  Their own engineers warned about problems.  BP suits decided to cut corners.

Those suits (and we know who they are) should be tried in The Hague for crimes against humanity.  And all living beings.

I am so angry I can barely type.  But, yes, throw them in prison, confiscate all their riches, and leave their families to starve.

I am sorry, but that is how I feel.  Their own engineers warned them...but profits uber alles.

Well, it's time to pay the piper, Hello?

Put the m-fers in jail and seize all their assets.  And I don't mean a nice, cozy white-collar jail.  I mean, put them in chains at hard labor, just like the South has traditionally done.

English usage is sometimes more than mere taste, judgment and education - sometimes it's sheer luck, like getting across the street.

I believe the outrage has just begun. It will rise to a crescendo in the coming months.
The hurricane season may bring the catastrophe to a new level also.
Not to be the prophet of doom, but there is also the possibility the well casing is destroyed
& the well may go completely wild, in other words, flow till it runs the reservoir`s pressure
down to equal the ocean pressure above it, equal.
The eleven deaths were just the beginning of the count.
I fear there will be murders, suicides, murder/suicides related to the stress of lost livelihoods.
This unnecessary tragedy is by no way going to wind down with the false hope of relief wells.
Sorry for the dismal outlook I have.
As for the images, that`s all I have.

Oui, Knuck, (15.00 / 3)
Je comprends la peur aussi!

[ Parent ]
You may very well be right, KH... (15.00 / 3)
as much as I hate to think about it.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

[ Parent ]
You know what I also think, KH? (7.50 / 4)
That there may well be racial and ethnic riots related to the loss of livelihoods, etc., that will make the busing riots that erupted here in Boston during the mid-1970's pale by comparison.  If and when they do happen, they won't just be between whites and non-whites, but between various non-white groups, and possibly between various white ethnic groups as well.  That's what I see as a possible consequence of this recent oil spill/disaster.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

[ Parent ]
Merci, Knuck! (14.62 / 8)
I have not ceased "crying" whether it's on the inside or the outside!  Imagining the silent suffering of all of this "beautiful life" that the ocean provides us just turns me inside out!  And, just knowing that WE have been unable to stop their suffering in any measure, while they suffer and die silently, is all the more devastating!

Have you or anyone stopped to think about how really sick it is to have all these workers (unprotected with even face masks, etc.) working on these beaches with mere shovels.  They will become sick.  But, what the hey, ya'll know everything nowadays is simply a matter of "collateral damage."  Why don't they employ bulldozers to simply lift off a few inches of the sand and take it to a "safe" spot for chemicals?

Now, some 60 days later, Kevin Costner's oil/water separating machines are to be put in place. WTF???????  (They had been previously refused because they couldn't get all of the OIL out!!!!)

This might interest you and others here, who may not have seen it!!

There was an AP article == "Corks, Pillows, . . . ." on May 6, 2010 . . . . . "Corks, Pillows, . . . "

What a wonderful post, KH. (14.83 / 6)
However, I beg to differ in at least one respect:  It's not just BP's fault, nor is it just BP who is trying to pull the wool over everybody's eyes about what's really transpiring in the Gulf after the worst oil spill/disaster in USA history.  Obama not only appointed a guy like Salazar, but kept most of the BP officials who were under G. W. Bush on, and gave BP the green light to proceed with the most dangerous off-shore drilling, which led to a horrible oil spill/explosion, leaving 11 oil rig workers dead, and many more injured or ill.  Then Obama had the audacity to come out and say that oil rigs don't generally cause oil spills, and that off-shore drilling is safe.  What a bunch of baloney!!

We must thank this Administration in Washington for sticking the last nails into the Gulf's coffin and killing it outright.

Again, though--I love your post.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Getting to acess the Internet since last Sunday., (3.00 / 6)
has been a trip.  Have called steadlily over the days since last Sunday to get the DSL to connect and over again it fails.  Partly, my fault to receive some form of childish playback.  Yes, sitting on the line listening to AT*T talk about their new products, etc. endlessly, kinda' got to me  and once I reached an actual live person, I expressed how a I felt about their repairs and tactics and that how much better they were once upon a time, but decided better against those tactics ultimately!

That sounds like a real drag, Tahoe! (15.00 / 5)
Sorry that you've had to go through this stuff.  Hope everything gets resolved, and that repairs get done properly, and soon.  Good luck.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Then how about a little slideshow with Dave Brubeck while we all wait for AT&T.

[ Parent ]
wow! (14.33 / 3)
that is just wonderful!
if they DID have slideshows & music like this while i'm on hold i wouldn't mind near so much!

thanks for this!

Beautiful Knucklehead (15.00 / 3)
I sure wish we could make the people that caused the gusher try living in an oil and chemical saturated environment and see how they do.

Thanks to all of you! (11.00 / 4)
But the problem has been on-going.  True, we've had many thunderstorms (severe) in our area over the last few days, but I kid you not, I've been calling day after day about the service.  I did kinda' lose it -- and did kinda' tell them (AT&T) off about all that they had done and how they expect their money right now, dare us to default, but we can't even get decent service and you spied on American people . . . . . blah, blah, blah, I went off -- if you couldn't tell!

Have had some weird experiences since then, the minute I tried to log on -- not just one sort, but several -- I think I was "reported" seriously.  (The person I said all this to said that he would report it to his "manager" and I said, "good." -- So, yeh, I think if you object to their "services" in any way . . . . ... . ).

Anyway, today seems to be the first somewhat "normal" day, though I do have limited access to the computer, plus a ton of "stuff" to do!

"Tiring" you say, Alma?  I sometimes wonder how I managed to work so many years and fight all these problems -- the problem is that many were not fought adequately, because when you're working, you can't sit on the phone waiting for a response endlessly, so you wind up eating a lotta' shit from corporatists -- they have Americans by the "proverbial . . .. . " -- they are understaffed and don't care and know GD well most Americans, while working, cannot sit on the phone endlessly trying to resolve a situation with whatever service problem they're having -- so you pay and lose!

ATT (15.00 / 3)
sucks.  I miss my Comcast so much.  Comcast has been screwing Sylv around (charging her for channels they don't get, saying they will take it off but don't and then the last straw was when one of the kids ordered a movie which is supposed to be password protected and they wouldn't take the charge off.) and she's thinking about switching to AT&T.  She knows all the problems we have with the service and thinks maybe after enough complaints AT&T will fix them.  AT&T & Comcast are our only choices here except dial up.

I wonder how I used to get everything done too Tahoe.  We must have been amazing and just didn't know it.  ;)

[ Parent ]
AT&T sucks the big one, Alma! (13.67 / 3)
As do most of the humongous corporations.  We have to pay for the service exactly according to their schedule, and yet, we can suffer endless delays in service and loss of use of whatever service and that's O.K.  AT&T sold us out during the Bush Adm. and gave our records over to the government and GOT AWAY WITH IT!

I've been getting some literature about a NEW service, called "Clear" -- I'm going to check into it a bit.

I feel corporations got away with a lot because, as I said, most of us couldn't sit on the GD phone all day long.  I cannot believe the amount of time I've spent these last couple of years just fighting things -- spending long waits on the telephone, etc.

The mega-conglomerates control the people (in their way) and control the government by throwing mega-cash at them and the sell outs love it, take it and WE are further left to the prey of corporatists -- it's endless!

Yeh, friggin' amazing!

When I first moved into (15.00 / 4)
this apartment, and got Verizon DSL, it was a nightmare for a while.  Somebody gave me the tech support phone # -- I wasn't supposed to have it -- but tech support finally got the problem resolved.  The "help line" people were as awful as you've heard from other sources.

English usage is sometimes more than mere taste, judgment and education - sometimes it's sheer luck, like getting across the street.

Thank you Knuck (15.00 / 5)
my heart breaks.   Why does there have to be so much suffering/death and why do the lessons have to get so big before people see the gain/money is not worth it?  It is beyond disappointing it is maddening!

I want your photos posted everywhere all around the world on every beach with a sign to remind people of the fragile creatures and beauty below the surface.

It makes me think of Newps post here.......
