My dad (10.50 / 4)
was many things in his life but the one thing I can remember most was he made hard things bearable.

Example we were so poor that we had beans a lot for dinner.  It is because of my dad I LOVE beans, I never felt this was a poor families meal no it was LAUGHIN' SOUP as my dad called it.  When we had laughin' soup it was a great time around the table we did anything and everything that made us laugh.  There were no limits or rules on those evenings we had LAUGHIN' SOUP which created evenings of great joy.

The year I turned 6 I wanted a bike in the worst way for my birthday my dad couldn't afford to buy me a bike but that didn't stop him.  He collected parts for months and built me a bike painting it a shiny bright red making it way better than new.

When I was 8 I got into a knock down drag out fight with a neighbor girl over who's dad was the most handsome dad hers or mine.  An issue worth fight over if there ever was one....

Today and everyday I love you dad and miss you more than words could ever say.  The day you died I sobbed just knowing never again would I be able to climb in your lap and have my worries rocked away this was more than a daddies little girl can ever take.  I was 52.

Thank you (13.67 / 3)
for sharing those memories Kathleen.

The good things we remember once they are gone are all little treasures that we can bring out and warm our hearts with.

I miss my dad too.

Newp I have no words (9.67 / 3)
this was one of my dad's favorite songs!  Perfect!

No one could sing it like Israel.........
The first time I heard it I was going to the store with my MIL and we were listening to NPR and they were talking about Israel, this was before he died, they played this song,we were both moved to tears I had to pull over so I could just close my eyes and take it in.   They show them spreading his ashes in this video it.  This is one of the songs we played while spreading my dad's ashes on a little lake at a ranch where we used to go for our family reunions.

Thank you brother.  I love you.

I just did something... (13.00 / 4)
I haven't done in 22 years... I just talked to my step-dad, the only dad we really ever knew, who I haven't spoken with since my mom's funeral on June 24, 1988.

the voice on the other end was immediately recognizable, though he's now 72, and I had to wait until he stopped crying before wishing him a happy father's day. and through my own tears I let him know that I loved him, and that I knew he did the very best he could as our dad.

thank you from the deepest part of my heart, Kathleen, your beautiful words about your dad encouraged me to reach out to my own while I still can.
