Good morning, Ria & (15.00 / 5)
everyone.  Hope it's lovely where you are: Wednesday was damn near perfect here (the heat & humidity abated overnight, so it was sunny but not sticky, with highs in the low 80s).  Of course I had to go to work!  But, well, I'm going to enjoy it while I can: this weather will NOT last long.

English usage is sometimes more than mere taste, judgment and education - sometimes it's sheer luck, like getting across the street.

Good afternoon, Youff! (15.00 / 5)
This:

But, well, I'm going to enjoy it while I can: this weather will NOT last long.

sounds like a great idea, Youff!!  Do enjoy!

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Some humor: (12.60 / 5)
I think I really adore Elena Kagan:

GRAHAM: Now, as we move forward and deal with law of war issues, Christmas Day bomber, where were you at on Christmas Day?

KAGAN: Senator Graham, that is an undecided legal issue, which -- the -- well, I suppose I should ask exactly what you mean by that. I'm assuming that the question you mean is whether a person who is apprehended in the United States is...

GRAHAM: No, I just asked you where you were at on Christmas.

KAGAN: You know, like all Jews, I was probably at a Chinese restaurant.

SPECTER: I will put into the record what the justices have had to say. I've questioned almost everybody about this subject, and I've had the opportunity to question all of the people on the court now.

But there's a lot -- there are a lot of those who have been favorably disposed to it -- or at least have acknowledged its inevitability -- and remind them that they all appeared on television this year on C-SPAN, and most of them -- many of them have appeared over the years selling books and being in a variety of situations.

KAGAN: It means I'd have to get my hair done more often, Senator Specter.

SPECTER: Let me commend you on...Let me commend you on that last comment. And I say that seriously. You have shown a really admirable sense of humor, and I think that is really important.

yup! (10.00 / 3)
i cracked up when i read "You know, like all Jews, I was probably at a Chinese restaurant." and had visions of the movie A Christmas Story with all the chinese waiters singing fa-ra-ra-ra-ra..ra-ra--ra-ra
(^.^)

I'm going to screw up his name, but (15.00 / 2)
a guy who has done some SNL work (Robert Smegman?) has a cartoon vid that I can only find on YT around Christmas: you may have seen me post it in the past, I dunno.  It's called "Christmastime for the Jews," and it's hysterical.  One of the elements of the song is the traditional Chinese restaurant dinner.

I think the clip originally appeared on SNL and maybe that's why it disappears the rest of the year.  Again, I dunno.  But I just went looking for it, and it's not there, afaict.

Ha (12.00 / 4)
If I remember correctly you were kind of figuring they might not be gone the whole time with the baby.  They did pretty good making it this long if you ask me. :)
