I had an open thought once. Then the door closed. (9.17 / 6)

morning! (10.00 / 4)
well... it's nearly afternoon, idn'tit?

we had a big adventure last night...

went to bed a bit late (around midnight)because it was just soooooo hot
put on a movie to go to sleep by & juuuust as i was falling asleep Oblio starts growling under his breath... deep, ferocious growling.
he was looking out the window that looks out over the chicken pen...
i got up to let him out & he went flying around the house.
but he's dark, dark grey so we couldn't see him in the dark.
about 10 min later he scratches to come in.
juuust as i was falling asleep he starts again. i stumble to the screen door, open it & see out in the driveway .... a big fat possum!
Oblio is on him in no time flat... plays with him a bit then delivers a mean chomp.
he wanted to bring it in, but i told him no.
so he puts it down & comes in & lays down. i close the door, go back to bed.
juuuust as i get to sleep grrrrrrrGRRRRRR
fehhhhh
he's dead! yer seeing things! i get the flashlight & shine it out there. possum laying on grass. turn off flashlight & the bastid gets up & starts hobbling away!
i open the door & Oblio's off like a rocket.
we figure for sure he finished off the possum. it looks dead. not breathing.
so we go back to bed, leaving the door ajar (no- it's a door not a jar)
so that Oblio can go in & out at will
(it's after 3 by this time)

when mrD got up this morning (i slept in) the possum was gone!
sneaky little bastid.
i'm sure he's the one been sucking eggs at the chicken pen.
i hope his little adventure makes him think twice before coming back!

Any way to (15.00 / 4)
possum-proof your henhouse?

English usage is sometimes more than mere taste, judgment and education - sometimes it's sheer luck, like getting across the street.

we thought it was (13.00 / 4)
& cannot find out how it was getting in.
we'll see if this fixed the problem!

I'm with ya, I sure hope the little egg sucker has learned his lesson and is gone for good!

This is sort of a prequel to my Open Thoughts Thread for Thursdays. (10.00 / 6)
Since I'm feeling kind of exuberant today, I decided to post this catchy song from June 1967.  That period, for me, despite a lot of the bad stuff that happened, and my relative isolation from most other kids, was also a very exuberant time, in many ways, and much of the music of that time, imho, exemplifies that.  Here goes:

LOL! (10.17 / 6)
loved it, Miki! as soon as everyone's healthy around here I'll definitely be singing this song...
have you been thinking about your old supervisor again?!?

LOL back at you, newpioneer! (14.00 / 5)

I have visions of me skipping down the street, whenever I hear this particular song!

Glad I was able to cheer you up, newpioneer!  Hope everybody's on the up and up soon.  Take care--thanks.

I still (15.00 / 4)
have it on a 45.  :)

I lied, I was thinking of a totally different song.

Inbetween reading your post and reading comments "They're coming to take me away" got stuck in my head, so by the time I got back to your comment that was the song on my mind.

my theme song! :O) (12.00 / 4)

LOL! (14.50 / 4)
That was a really fun song.  I'm also partial to "Love Potion No. 9."

A minor correction: (15.00 / 5)
I meant to say that my above post and link to the late-1960's song that I just posted is a prequel to next  week's edition of my Open Thoughts for Thursdays thread.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

we have (14.40 / 5)
visitors....

our girl & the princess just showed up!
