"By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience,
which is the bitterest." ~ Confucius

by holding up to you a mirror in which you can see a
noble image of yourself." ~ George Bernard Shaw

"Rivers are magnets for the imagination, for conscious pondering and subconscious dreams, thrills, fears.  People stare into the moving water, captivated, as they are when gazing into a fire. What is it that draws and holds us? The rivers' reflections of our lives and experiences are endless."
~ Tim Palmer, Lifelines

"I read and walked for miles at night along the beach, writing bad blank verse and searching endlessly for someone wonderful who would step out of the darkness and change my life. It never crossed my mind that that person could be me." ~ Anna Quindlen

it's just perfection!!!

thanks newp (12.67 / 6)
wonderful reflections this morning!

sometime after noon i'll be putting up the Star Quilt diary for Sara.
i'll bring a link here when i do...

i spent another day battling insurance companies yesterday.
i did get our premiums cut in half & our coverage has gone from nothing to less.
effing racket if you ask me.

thanks, sweetie (14.50 / 4)
but my heart is breaking for your struggle with the organized, and now govt sponsored, criminals in the insurance industry. we're fighting like hell for Juan to be cancer-free before the island's "health reform" is completely bankrupt, right along with every other govt program here. if there's an economic recovery happening, we sure aren't seeing it...

What fantastic pics :) (12.80 / 5)
They worked magic on my soul.  :)

:O) (15.00 / 4)
I just knew you'd love them, sister! how are all the babies?

It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see. ~ Thoreau ... and, do no harm

[ Parent ]
Over all (12.00 / 4)
the babies are good.  I'm still working on Lala, but she seems stable.  The past few days she has been trying to eat lettuce again.  She hasn't been successful, but its better than her not trying.  I've been doing some jaw exercises with her that I hope helps.

The boys are having a blast.  I've been keeping Lala out here with me so when Kate cleans a boy cage she moves Nikki out here with me and Lala and whichever boy cage she is doing that boy gets put in the girls cage for run arounds.  The girl cage is 3 times the size of each boy cage plus it smells like girls!  The boys love it!  ;)

Oh and Ro and Pa are jealous of the attention Lala's getting.  They keep trying to seperate me and Lala when I'm feeding her.  Its really kind of comical watching them and seeing what they try next.

[ Parent ]
Oh, sweetie: hugs & extra scritches to the neglected boys (7.33 / 3)

reflections on reflections (13.57 / 7)
The hardest part of loving...

The beginning of love is to let those we love be perfectly themselves, and not to twist them to fit our own image. Otherwise we love only the reflection of ourselves we find in them.
Thomas Merton

The harshest part of the world...

The world is a looking glass and gives back to every man the reflection of his own face.
William Makepeace Thackeray

The most difficult requirement for speaking...

They only babble who practise not reflection.
Edward Young

The easiest way out...

To doubt everything or to believe everything are two equally convenient solutions; both dispense with the necessity of reflection.
Henri Poincare

The best thing about fireflies...

And time for reflection with colleagues is for me a lifesaver; it is not just a nice thing to do if you have the time. It is the only way you can survive.
Margaret J. Wheatley

"In proportion to the vigor of the individual, these revolutions are frequent, until in some happier mind they are incessant..." R.W.Emerson - Compensation

perfect, irev! (14.33 / 6)
thank you!!

Shrimp & grits... (15.00 / 5)
In which I disappoint RiaD!

Still haven't tried your recipe yet!  Didn't pick up any shrimp this weekend.  My big splurge was some hazelnut-finished ground pork from Tails & Trotters, instead.

I'll get around to it soon, though.  We're a bit past peak, but there's still more than a few weeks left in the Oregon pink shrimp season...

Pass me a bottle, Mr. Jones...

I love rivers... (12.00 / 5)
But is it odd that when I was down at the Willamette the other day, a six-eyed fish came up to me and hissed "Come on in Jay, the water's fine!"?

;)

Pass me a bottle, Mr. Jones...

Should also note... (11.00 / 5)
...that the fish in the Passaic back in Newark have 14 eyes.

I read the diary with much interest, and, although there's much in the diary with which I agree, (11.75 / 4)
I still cannot and will not, in good conscience, bring myself to back either the Democratic or the GOP, due to so much of the crap that's gone on.  Since you all know by heart how I feel, I won't go into it again, but, to each their own.

another one for you:

Maybe I should check my email more often. (15.00 / 3)
Here's the thing: I just got a message from someone I haven't seen in at least a decade or more.  My first reply was rather skeptical...but on reflection I am SURE it is the same woman I used to know, back in the day.  And I miss her.

And she lives 3,000 miles away...closer to our buddy Jay in Portland, in fact.

But, oh, how I would love to visit the west coast & see her again.  It would be SO much fun.
