July 4th Beyond Oil Party

by: Kathleen

Wed Jul 21, 2010 at 14:28:06 PM EDT

(10:30am - promoted by RiaD)

This video is from the CD, which was 13 minutes long, that came in our Sierra Club packet.  The packet also had a letter to Obama that everyone signed.
See it here:

You too can sign.....

This annual party that turned into the Sierra Club "Beyond Oil" Party was almost canceled because of my mom's quick decline.  With no sleep I was so overwhelmed, but friends rallied for me and helped us pull it together.  Hospice nurse said you can't stop living she could linger like this for months, so we charged ahead knowing mom loved parties, she would have this last humdinger to take with her when she decided to go.

A humdinger it was!

For more on the party take a leap........

Kathleen :: July 4th Beyond Oil Party
I took this series of pictures in about 5 minutes. it is a very tiny snap shot of the evening. At this point people were still coming and the late comers never saw the video but signed the letter.

The coolest thing about the party was the range of ages from 9th graders to college age, and 40ish to 60ish boomers.  The video created an interesting discussion with all the young people joining in.  I was surprised at how aware and concerned they were, it gave me hope (not an easy thing to do these days).

This shot was taken over the island into the kitchen.

On the other side of the room......
These guys are waiting for the video, we didn't show it until everyone who was there had eaten.

It was a great night full of joy, we are blessed to have great friends and family with kids that don't mind being with us.  How much better can it get?

O! My! (13.75 / 8)
I think I love Scooby and Cody and Yogi!

And they're not even cats!

(Don't hate me, Kathleen, just b/c I'm a cat person.)

But I can't afford to move until Jay or someone can afford to hire me!  Don't wanna be homeless, y'know!  Even a tiny apartment is better than nothing.

Oh, as you maybe know, that's one (14.57 / 7)
of my favorite musicals.  And here's one of the funniest songs:

I wish (13.67 / 6)
you had been here too!!

I think it was the kids joining in was the coolest and not only did they join they brought their friends!!  There were kids I had never met before, it was wonderful and they were wonderful, helpful and thankful.

Glad that you prevailed and went on with the party despite so many rough times, Kathleen! (14.50 / 6)
It sounds like it was lots of fun.  I would've crashed your party if I lived nearby!  LOL :)

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Thank you Kathleen (12.67 / 6)
This post really makes my butt light up!

It looks like it was fantastic and I'm so glad you went ahead with it.

I'm also glad you thought about moms privacy and added the curtain.  That consideration for people, whether they are family or not is seen so much in your posts and comments.  Its one of the things I love about you.

The babies do look all tuckered out.  :)

Thank you Alma (14.33 / 6)
The babies were as busy as I was greeting and snuggling with everyone.  Scooby and Yogi have never seen a lap they didn't like and if you don't pet Cody he rubs and leans on you, you would think they never get attention.  Cody was my mom's dog and he actually saved her life once.  They all 3 watched over her like hawks.

I agree, Alma. (14.50 / 6)
Kathleen:  It was great that you went on with the party.  It sounds as if a wonderful time was had by all.  If I lived nearby, I would've crashed the party!  LOL  :)

have loved for you to join us, Miki!

Thanks, Kathleen! :) (14.83 / 6)
Hi, Kathleen.  Thanks for the compliment.  In all seriousness, I would've come if I lived nearby.  It sounds like you all had a blast.

The beer... (11.50 / 6)
I see Dead Guy.  Rogue Ale, to be exact.  Am I correct?

I also think I saw a Full Sail IPA in there?

If I went 2 for 2 (I'm positive on the Rogue Dead Guy), I want to be called Eagle Eye from now on.

;)

Pass me a bottle, Mr. Jones...

Yep (15.00 / 5)
these are some of my husbands favorites.

Also Hop Czar, Bridgeport a pale ale is his favorite but taste like cat piss to me.  Now I have never had cat piss but it is a strong bitter beer.

Some of the collage age brought Rolling Rock and left it behind.  I had that the other day and I like it better than the beer my husband buys, much lighter.

However I do like Mirror Pond, yeah Oregon.  :o)

I'm still trying to figure out Bridgeport... (9.40 / 5)
I honestly can't stand one single beer they've ever made.  And I've pretty much tried them all.  To me, Hop Czar tastes more like wet dog than cat piss.

;)

Pass me a bottle, Mr. Jones...

Oh... (12.00 / 5)
Signed,

About Rolling Rock... (15.00 / 5)
shortly after I moved to NYC, I was in a health food store on Spring Street.

They carried exactly two beers back then: Rolling Rock and Beck's.  Apparently both are all-natural (but not necessarily organic).

RR is good on really hot days if the bottles are ice-cold.  I prefer something hoppier, like Pilsner Urquell (as if I could still afford it!)  But RR's okay, it definitely has a clean finish.

A-B InBev... (15.00 / 5)
Just a quick note, Rolling Rock is now owned and brewed by Anheuser-Busch InBev.  And "all-natural" has no legal meaning, so the phrase can be used for anything.  Just sayin'!

I tried it a few times as a kid (yeah, I mean as a kid - like when I was 16 and sleeping on freight tracks in Carteret during one of my gotta-leave-you-fucking-people-sojourns), it's better than Bud or those other pisswaters, but imo it's still tasteless.

Europe should smack us in the head for what we've done to lagers, because unlike what you'd think from virtually all big American beers, they can still be a lively style.  When we open that grocery, I'll take you down the street to HUB for one of their lagers!  One of the few I've ever enjoyed, actually...

;)

Pass me a bottle, Mr. Jones...

[ Parent ]
Well, RR is a lot like drinking water (15.00 / 3)
and was even before InBev bought them.  That's one reason it's so good on really hot days: you're not going to get dehydrated!

I don't know from your microbrewed lagers, but I've always thought Brooklyn Lager was very good for a commercial beer, and so is Sam Adams.  Around here it's Yuengling Lager (hey, at least it's sorta local).  There IS a brew pub in town, but I only ever really liked one of their beers, and that's the one that most resembles Pilsner Urquell.

just beautiful, Kathleen! (14.17 / 6)
everyone looks so happy, even your sleepy babies! congratulations on a successful beyond oil event!!
sure wish I could have enjoyed the fireworks from your covered porch with you guys!

Nothing would have (13.29 / 7)
made me happier than to have fireflies at the door!!

We would crank up the music and dance!!
