Off to work, then to run errands.  Thank the FSM I've got good AC in my car.

Mornin' everybody.

thanks puzzled (13.80 / 5)
for your orange support....

this morning (about two hours ago) was lovely & nearly cool but that has changed...
the temp is going up quickly & humidity rising.... air's so thick you could cut it with a knife!

i'm working on finishing curtains today.
mrD finally got the rods up for me (how can you hem curtains w/o hanging them first?)

here's a crappy picture of the one over the kitchen sink
i'll try to get a better pic later...

that is 57 different patterns/pieces of cloth sewn together. (only the blueberries are repeated-it's hard to find blue food!) they each have different food on them, mostly fruits & veggies. it is much brighter than this pic shows.

I finally (15.00 / 4)
made it outside to do some garden work yesterday. Got some weeding and fertilizing done and had time to really look at almost everything.

The sunflowers I planted for Kate, while being shorter (by a couple of feet)than they should be aren't far from blooming.  You can see their beautiful colored heads just waiting to open. The pumpkin seeds I planted for Emmett have really taken off.  The vines and leaves are huge, considering my late start, and there's lots of buds on them.  :)  Lots of buds on the pepper plants too, but there has been for awhile. I don't think the peppers have started forming yet. I didn't look at them as well as I did the other plants, so maybe they are.  I probably have a week or so before the first cantaloup will be ready.  As thick as the vines are I might be missing some already fully grown.  ;)

Today I'll be getting another pan of wheat grass started (I screwed up the last pan), going to the store, and getting Lala's bowls washed up and making her more juices and pellet mash (Those last ones are constant chores nowdays).

For all-summer color (15.00 / 4)
in your flower bed(s) you can't do better than black-eyed susans.  I forget the Latin name right now (Rudbeckia something) but they're in full bloom here & should stay so until at least September.  Also -- and I have mentioned this one before but it's just stunning so I will again -- check out Geranium Rozanne.  No dead-heading required, and it's in full bloom until the first killing frost.  Mine kept blooming until after Thanksgiving one year.  It should be hardy in your zone too.  Needless to say, I agree with whoever wrote "It is the most garden-worthy Geranium we have found" or words to that effect.

English usage is sometimes more than mere taste, judgment and education - sometimes it's sheer luck, like getting across the street.

Heh (15.00 / 2)
I took black-eyed susans and other plants out of the spot 2 years ago where I have the sunflowers now.  Last year I planted lettuce there.  The sunflowers aren't for color as much as attracting bees.  Katies been wanting to help the bee population for a few years and was even checking into making hives.  I talked her out of that since I'm the one that usually ends up doing all the work on her projects and knew I didn't have time for hives.  I still have black-eyed susans that pop up all over the yard.

GHA!! (9.50 / 4)
thanks, Ria - it's obvious I don't even know what day it is anymore  :o(

Mirror, Mirror, Bloody Fibber

Mirror, mirror, on the wall,
Can't you show me tall and slim?
Mirror, mirror, on the wall,
Must I look so bloody grim?

Mirror, mirror, on the wall,
You're distorting my poor waist!
Mirror, mirror, on the wall,
And why the heck am I defaced?

Mirror, mirror, on the wall,
Why have I a double chin?
Mirror, mirror, on the wall,
And what's the stupid, goofy grin?

Mirror, mirror, on the wall,
Pointless asking 'Who's the fairest-?
More bloody likely, 'Who's the queerest? '
Now look, I paid a big bucks for thee,
So why can't you be nice to me?

Mirror, mirror, on the wall,
Who's the fairest of them all?
Me, you say? Ah, that's better -
Mirror, mirror, bloody fibber!

my reflections? I need to remember when Tuesday is!! thanks again, sweetie

Colds going around....hmmmm. (11.75 / 4)
I wonder if that's what I may have, since I've had a bit of congestion, coughing, and a scratchy throat the last few days.

Last night, in the movie theatre, a number of people in the audience (although not the ones near and around me) had some rather nasty, hacking coughs, and there were quite afew sniffles.

Glad you're on the mend, newp!

You're welcome, newp! (14.00 / 4)
Glad you're feeling better.  Baby Aziza's doing fine--she's beginning to talk (although in her own language), but she'll pick  up human language sooner or later.  She's not quite six months old, but she's testing me more and more.  I need to keep buying her new toys once a month, because she destroys them to the point of being dangerous for her to play with in her cage unsupervised rather quickly.  But I guess that's the way it goes.  African Greys, known as the geeks of the parrot world, are extremely intelligent (as Aziza is), and they need lots of attention 2-3 hours a day, which I make a point of giving her, and lots of toys to keep them busy.  Without the right toys and amounts of attention per day, she could (as African Greys can and will do) resort to destructive behaviours such as biting, feather picking/plucking, for example.  So, I have to be vigilant.  Nonetheless, since I have lots of fun with her, it's all worth it!  :)

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Did you see (15.00 / 2)
Eddie C's rec-list photo diary about the tornado in the Bronx?

Weird.  NYC basically never gets tornadoes.  Hurricanes, sure, but tornadoes?  I live in a tornado alley, of sorts: they usually hit trailer parks around here, or small towns out in the county.  My city seems (FSM protect us) relatively immune.  Good luck?  Or a quirk of geography?  I dunno.

Anyway, there was a tornado watch here, for a few hours Sunday, for the same storm that actually produced the Bronx tornado.  I'm still wondering whether coworker J. really had a tree in her kitchen.  In my neighborhood, we didn't even lose power: at least, not for long enough to knock out my clock-radio.  And I haven't seen any downed tree limbs, either: but the city is really good about trimming branches b/c of the power lines.

I've heard the situation is very different in Lititz, where there are downed trees/branches everywhere.
