JayinPortland :: Open Thoughts Friday
Well, I ain't got much to say today but I found a few of my favorite tunes I think you'll enjoy.

These. Are. The Breaks!

You're fucking-a right and I went all the way around the friggin' world to...

Well then I ended up at Tom's Diner.  Which reminds me - why don't we have any 24 hour diners in Portland?  I'm the Jersey guy, I should actually be the one to introduce these I guess?  I mean come on, really... Disco Fries! The Jersey Trash Version of poutine!  How can you go wrong?!

And just because we were talking about Oakland yesterday, and Fridays are all about chillin' music...

Ah now 93, those were the days.  Before Billy C. killed an entire continent with NAFTA, and awww fuck I don't wanna think about things anymore...

LOL, Jay! (15.00 / 5)
I was having problems earlier with my WRTI connection...it's playing beautifully now & I don't want to mess with it.

But I love that Lisa Stansfield tune.  Get to hear it at work a lot.  Loved it back in the day, too.

Have you eaten yet at the Korean taco truck in Portland?  (See my recent diary if you don't know what I'm talking about.)

Been meaning to check it out! :) (15.00 / 5)
Believe me, I hear tacos and I am so in!

Heh, there's actually about 7 Korean taco trucks here, but no I haven't eaten at any yet.  I'm still hooked on the Mexican truck (Torres de Morelos - tripas! cabeza! lengua!)  in my 'hood for when it comes to tacos...

Pass me a bottle, Mr. Jones...

We actually have a taco truck here (15.00 / 4)
but I haven't tried them yet.  I know: what's stopping me?  Maybe next week, during my mid-week "weekend."  I just only seem to think about going there in the middle of the night...and this is definitely the kind of city that pulls in the sidewalks.  Taco truck would be strictly daytime.  There are a couple of places open late: but those are more of the pizza or diner variety.

OTOH, as I've noted before the horrible pizza joint on the corner does an adequate gyro.  I have yet to check out the falafel place: they're usually closed when I get off of work.  But I'm dying for a good falafel.  It has been years.

OH MY GOD (14.33 / 6)
this is a royal righteous rant... a must see....

House Republicans late Thursday were able to corral enough votes to defeat a bill that would have provided up to $7.4 billion in aid to those sickened by toxins resulting from the 9/11 attacks.

In the process, they set off a host of fiery speeches and denunciations from their Democratic colleagues and produced a veritable YouTube moment from Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y), whose district includes many of the affected.

holy shit (14.33 / 6)
Weiner is fucking furious, and deservedly so. every dem needs to call out repubs like this 24/7.

Whooooooo! Weiner burned down the house!! (LOL) (15.00 / 5)
Too bad more Democrats don't do what Weiner just did!  Weiner's rant, in addition to being  justified, laid bare the fact that the vast majority of the Democrats are cowardly wusses, with no backbone!  Shame on them!!!

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Happy happy, joy joy! (14.00 / 7)
The heat wave finally broke here.  I don't know how long it will stay cool, but weather.com predicts a high today of only 81 and tomorrow of 83.  Clear & sunny, low humidity.

Happy dance!

happy dancin' with ya, Youff! (14.00 / 6)
our storms have cleared for a while, and the remaining breezes are wonderful. our high today should be 89, so I'm still sitting in front of the fan!

Wonderful news, newp! (15.00 / 5)
So glad your land will have a chance to dry out, and the critters to play.  We'll enjoy it while it lasts, right?  Even if a fan is needed....

Same here in our neck of the woods! (14.50 / 6)
What a relief!!
