Saturday Open Thoughts

by: Alma

Sat Jul 31, 2010 at 01:00:00 AM EDT

Oh what a Friday!  But first a new cute picture of Lala

Lala had her weekly vet appointment this morning at 9am.  She has been having more problems lately and still losing weight.  Dr. Greear thought Lala needed her back teeth done again and a more thorough examination by a specialist.   So she made a call and got us in to Dr. Tim Reichard.   "Dr. Tim" interned at the San Diego Zoo and then was the Chief veterinarian at the Toledo Zoo for 23 years.  So we went to his clinic Bird and Exotic Pet Wellness Center in Toledo Ohio.  It took us about 45 minutes to get there.

Alma :: Saturday Open Thoughts
The first thing you see when you walk in are two finches in a cage.  The cage has a plate with the birds names.  Of course they are aptly named Atticus & Scout.  Next a parrot flies over our heads and lands on a rope toy hanging from the ceiling.  The receptionist says she needs to keep an eye on that one because he's "mean" and bites.  She said he only likes his owner, whom he picked out when he was brought in as a rescue.  Next another bird lands on the counter and is eyeing me.  The receptionist said he was staring because I was wearing a ball cap.  She's had him for years but his previous owner had a son who used to do a lot of his care and he wore a hat.

Next thing I know the bird eyeing me came to sit on the cabinet right by me.  And the "mean" bird was in front of Katie letting her pet him.  So I figured I may as well pet the bird by me.  They both ate up the attention.

Next we went to the exam room and the birds decided to follow.  While Dr. Tim did Lalas exam, which took awhile, Katie kept petting the "mean" bird.  Lala does need the surgery so they went out to the hall to print out the cost estimate.  While they were out there we could hear Dr. Tim asking what had gotten into the birds?  And Cindy, the tech, replying that she thought the birds just REALLY liked us.  I didn't tell them Katie's an animal whisperer.

Lala goes Tues. for her surgery.  They gave us some pain meds to give her and they sent us home with a food for ill piggies that they helped develop, and Lala loves it.  So I think she will be gaining weight quickly now.  Her chin sling had gotten held up in US Customs but came today.  Dr. Tim thinks its worth a try too.  We decided to wait to try it until after her surgery.  Its recommended by the woman that makes them to have their teeth done first if the teeth need done, as the overgrown teeth have sharp barbs that could injure their mouth with the pressure of the sling.

Enjoy your Saturday!

Such good news about Lala!  She likes the new food and you've found an excellent surgeon.

Only one question:  Why on earth would a chin sling for a guinea pig get held up by Customs.  Did they think it was some kind of Supr Sekrit Army slingshot like David used against Goliath, intended to take out the GOP?

What were they thinking?

When we first (14.00 / 7)
heard it was held up in customs we thought it was on the Canadian side, but nope once we got the tracking number we found out it was our side.  They were probably intrigued by the description on the Fed Ex form on the outside of the box:

Veterinary dental device for guinea pig jaw alignment (then it has some numbers and then it says) no fda req. vet use only

I think Lalas new food is made of piggie crack.  She was in a feeding frenzy when I got it out last night and I had to scrape the bowl with my fingers for her to lick every little last bit off. Unfortunately this food can be dangerous to them so I can't give her extra.

Hi, Alma, (14.33 / 6)
This is such pleasingly good news to hear -- although I know it's been such a difficult "trip" with Lala in all ways imaginable.  I sure hope this surgery, on Tuesday, proves to be the answer to Lala's problems and Lala and everyone can get back to normal.

Is Toledo that close to you?  Why not just do a quick search on Toledo attractions and see if there's something that would be worth seeing while you're there?

Anyway, fingers crossed.

Hugs!

[ Parent ]
Toledo (12.67 / 6)
is only about 29 miles from where I live.  I lived there for 4 months remember?  ;)

I think I'm to exhausted to do any sightseeing and have seen most of the big attractions there.  I don't think my back would take it right now either.  Its been really messed up from kneeling under the table to feed Lala so many hours a day.  She eats more if we leave her on the floor and come to her rather than trying to feed her on our lap.  Also we don't get near as messy that way.  About half of each syringe ends up dripping out of her mouth, running down her neck and forming puddles at her feet.

[ Parent ]
Yeah, I can imagine that would play havoc (14.33 / 6)
with your back.

Let's hope "normalcy" will resume soon!  At least normal, as normal goes for us!  :)

Well, O.K., then, sightseeing is not such a good idea -- maybe, there's someplace pleasant to sit outdoors, if the weather is nice and read, sip some tea, etc.

[ Parent ]
I think Tahoe's onto something: if (15.00 / 2)
the weather there is as wonderful as it has been here yesterday & today: cooler, low humidity, lots of sun: then I think finding a nice big park, preferably with a decent lake or stream and sitting on a park bench in the shade overlooking said stream or lake with a pair of binoculars & searching for herons and other birds would be a lovely way to relax & wait.

Then again, my favorite birdwatching always involves aquatic birds.  They're big, they're gorgeous, they're easy to spot....

But if you don't like birdwatching, you can take a nice long escapist novel with you.

Oh, you think that I like Seattle, don't you?

Well, I used to like Seattle, but one of my best friends in the world just got hired into some hoity-toity job with Microsoft and will be moving there soon.

Damn.

I mean, I'm happy for him, because it's a nice promotion, but sad for me cuz I'll miss the guy.

Oh well, it'll give Laurie and I an excuse to come up and visit.

Kathleen, (9.29 / 7)
I have no idea where.

He just confirmed it, today.

Sad to see Chris leave SF.

Now both him and Laurie's brother works for Microsoft, tho Laurie's brother, Eric, does so in Singapore.

Anyway, this is actually mildly depressing.

The guy's been a close friend of mine for a long time, now.  I mean, I am proud of him and happy that he's got this terrific upturn in his fortunes, but he will be missed.

to Seattle once and I was thinking that those were the Cascades.

How's Mt. St. Helens doing, btw?  Last I heard, it was smoking a bit but nothing big like in ... was it 1981?

Seattle (15.00 / 3)
is sandwished  with the Olympics to the west and the cascades to the east with Mt St. Helens and Mt Rainer.  Mt St. Helens lets off steam from time to time but right now we are hearing more rumbles from Mt Rainier (54 miles SE of Seattle), it is expected to blow next. It is closer to Seattle and populated areas, there are some low lying river communities that have lahar warning systems to get people to move to higher ground when it happens because these communities will be covered in mud and debris.

I'm seeing an (12.86 / 7)
improvement in Lala this morning.  She hadn't eaten any of her non liquified pellet mash in about a week, but she was eating some of it this morning.  I don't know if its the pain med or the new food but something seems to be stimulating her to try and eat something other than liquid out of a syringe.  :)

One thing about Dr. Tim.  Well I knew before I went there about his years at the zoo.  I didn't know until I met him that he is missing a hand.  I was so tempted to ask him if an alligator or something had gotten it.  I didn't of course but it sure made me curious.

Okay, I'm hitting PSU... (13.43 / 7)
Haven't been to the massive PSU Saturday Farmers' Market in a couple months*, mainly because it's the tourist market and the crush of people is generally along the lines of Times Square in Manhattan on a Saturday night, but well I haven't done a peak-of-summer photo diary there yet.  Oh, and I have a few extra unexpected dollars this week! ;)

I did one almost two years ago (was it that long?!), but it was in October so I want to go today to catch all kinds of tomato and berry and pepper, etc, goodness.  Oregon Summer Bounty!

Should have it ready this evening, to be posted here and Locavore and Orange.

*I stick to the closer, smaller, but still fantastic neighborhood farmers' markets here on the East Side, including the year-round one right down the street

Pass me a bottle, Mr. Jones...

Okay, we're waiting 'til next week... (13.20 / 5)

What a journey (14.14 / 7)
for you and Katie!!  I so hope this is the answer for Lala  she is the sweetest, at least she will be gaining weight before you go into surgery.  She is a lucky little baby to be so loved.  Thank you for keeping us up to date.  Do you have a date for surgery?

Bear Shake Tree Pictures, Images and Photos

She goes Tuesday (12.14 / 7)
We need to have her there inbetween 10 & 10:30am and we can pick her up about 4pm.  I don't know if we'll stay down there to wait or come back home inbetween.  There's a big mall and lots of strip stores around there but I'm not really a shopper and don't know if I could take 6 hours of shopping.  OTOH I hate to waste the gas to come home inbetween.  I don't know if it would bother them if we just stayed at the vets office to wait or not. I could easily take a book and read for 6 hours.  They really only have about 3 seats in their waiting room that I saw, so I doubt if they like people to wait.

Right now I've been rereading Mary Stewarts Merlin trilogy, and not getting near enough time at it.  I have it all in one volume and I started reading it a few weeks ago and I only finished the first book last night.  Its not just my online time thats been down taking care of my girlie.  I'm behind in everything.

Oh sister (14.67 / 6)
Enjoy!  Stone massages are my absolute favorite. :)

Thats a good idea on asking them where a good place to read is.  I wish I would have been more observant when I was there.  For all I know there might be a bench right outside their office.  The way the building is formed it does make a very small 3 sided courtyard, so there might be a bench I overlooked.

By the time we get her settled in at home and have dinner it'll probably be in the evening EST, before I get to post on how it went.

about finding a nice park.  If you have a laptop, Starbucks might be a possibility for part of the time -- I think they all have wifi and I don't think they make you buy lots of coffee to just hang out there.  One cup, sure...but they don't, afaik, kick you out when you've finished it.

Here's a great diary... (9.00 / 6)
"Pray For Newark" Is a Model For Christian Theocratic Rule -

Consider this following 10 minute video documentary, which presents what it calls the "transformation" of Newark. Initiated by New Jersey residents Lloyd and Joanna Turner in early 2008, the Pray For Newark effort involves a consortium of church volunteers who are working closely with Newark's police and the mayoral administration of Corey Booker. The effort claims to be able to field an entire army of volunteers, one for each street in the city, organized by city ward - almost like a neighborhood watch. Neighborhood watches have been shown to be effective at reducing crime. So what's not to like ?

Well, as I documented in my story Movement Behind Uganda's "Kill the Gays" Bill Organizing in Newark, Pray For Newark is closely tied to a an international evangelical ministry whose leaders are in the forefront of opposing gay rights in Hawaii and are closely allied with Ugandan leaders who are leading the push in Uganda for the so-called "kill the gays" bill that would in effect legislate an entire segment of Ugandan society out of existence. As a simple point of fact, the Uganda Anti Homosexuality Bill is harsher than any comparable anti-gay legislation passed, prior to World War Two, in Nazi Germany. The movement can't currently aim so high in the United States but in Hawaii, where it is highly influential in the executive branch of government, gay rights activists are being treated as second-class citizens whose civil rights can be determined by majority vote. [...]

Pray For Newark has become so closely tied to Newark's police department that early in 2010 Newark leader of the effort, the Rev. Bernard Wilks presided over the graduation of 54 new Newark police officers. The graduation was held in a church Wilks preaches at, with Newark's mayor Corey Booker and other top Newark city officials in attendance.

These are the 'people' who stole my daughter.

I'm not one for violence, but I'd surely make an exception here if I had the chance to punch these fucking scumbags' teeth out.

The Newark in me finds it absolutely disgusting that Cory Booker not only just associates with these people, but also apparently views them as partners.  Well then, if that's so I'll make absolutely fucking sure to oppose Cory Booker just as much as I do his hate-filled, murderous and dangerous nutbag buddies.

Pass me a bottle, Mr. Jones...

Oh crap Jay (12.40 / 5)
Its worse than I thought for your daughter.  I knew they were nut cases from what you said but they are at the really extreme nut case level.  I'm so sorry and I hope your daughter makes it out of that enviromnent safe and sane.  Only a few more years until she can legally get out of there, right?

((((((Jay & daughter))))))

[ Parent ]
Getting out... (6.00 / 6)
She's already basically out.  Fwiw, my sisters keep ('illegal') contact with her (she's 13 soon, and well versed in computer use and etc), and she's basically a latchkey mess.  She goes where she wants, when she wants and nobody even watches or cares.

I had a fucked up childhood myself, but even my mother called the cops when I disappeared to sleep on the freight tracks for a few days here and there.  My daughter?  Nope.  So-called "grandma" stopped caring once she beat my evil, non-christian, satan-possessed ass in court, apparently.

But who am I gonna complain to?  The same legal system that decided a woman who went 0-for-5* on her own kids was a better parent than me, mainly because she lied first and hardest, and had a ludicrously expensive well-connected attorney?

Something I don't think I ever mentioned online before - why I was even denied visitation rights.  The court-appointed "therapist" was affiliated with their church cult, and I was ordered to visit her twice a week (I had to pay it out of my own pocket too, of course) for "anger management" sessions.  Because the very same 'person' who managed to grab a psych degree despite her very own nuttiness, and despite her very obvious conflict-of-interest, reported that I was "angry" in my court-ordered "interview"** with her.

Was I angry?  You're sure as fucking shit right I was!  And am!  And I think I had / have a pretty fucking good reason, too.  But whatever, I guess I'm supposed to just 'take it in stride', and 'work with' the same assholes who claimed I made my daughter sleep in my sister's cat's litter box and shit like that.  Oh btw, did I mention that even NJDYFS, assholes though they are, even admitted in their final report that every accusation those looney tunes nuts made against me were bullshit?

The (pre)judge never gave a shit, though.  I was guilty as soon as I stepped into the (kangaroo) court.

*her first 3 kids from her first marriage won't talk to her; and from her second marriage her son is one of NJ's biggest drug lords, and her daughter (my daughter's mother) is a heroin addict who we're not even sure is alive right now

**the 'interview' was the proverbial "when did you stop beating your wife" bullshit

Pass me a bottle, Mr. Jones...

[ Parent ]
Sometimes (11.40 / 5)
you wonder if the judge bothers to read the paperwork at all.  They sure don't seem to have the kids best interest as the motivation in their decisions.  Michigans Social Services, Friend of the court and family court suck too.  I usually call our Friend of the Court, Fiend of the Court.

While I have no idea of the circumstances (14.33 / 6)
surrounding your comment, I get the gist and I empathize greatly with you.

[ Parent ]
Circumstances... (13.00 / 5)
See here and here.  And there's much more, some of which I'm pretty sure I've even managed to block out of my mind for my own sanity's sake.

These days, I really don't give a shit about privacy anymore and I think my main thing should be exposing the NJ "Family" Court system for the easily manipulated p.o.s. it is.

Oh, and thanks.

Checking back... (14.60 / 5)
I don't believe it.  I've also now been attacked for calling these scumbags what they are!

Oh noez, I offended the delicate sensibilities of "progressives" (I hate that fucking term, it's for cowards and it also means nothing - I'm a liberal and proud)!

I was compared to Rwandan Hutus by a couple two or three so-called "academics" whose theories disapprove with one particular word I used (cockroaches, boo!).  Never mind that I was having my daughter stolen by these assholes (I guess that's a 'better' word to use, or maybe not!) while they had their noses buried in a book somewhere, apparently studying up on how we can kindly accommodate fascist takeover of our government without using words that offend their very delicate sensibilities.

Really have to wonder whether these morons have ever lived in the real world for more than a few seconds?

Yeah, you know I kinda thought that the real problem were anti-freedom, bloodthirsty knuckledragging savages advocating murder of people who don't think and live exactly like they do infiltrating our government at all levels.  But apparently not.  Some "progressives" are more interested in lecturing me about their theories on a word.

Perfect example of why the "left" in this country is a fucking joke, and can never get anything done.  We play patty-cake with fascists.  We scold each other for being mean while our opponents pass laws to kill us.

B) It might be a good time for a deep breath. You are emotionally invested in this.

I recommend troutfishing's diaries on sight. But, I didn't see anything hydratable in your posts. So, I'm in an interesting place, right now. Not that it matters.

My real suggestion isn't that you "back down", but that you take the time to refine your arguments.

Good luck!

A bit more, Jay (15.00 / 5)
I got into it with someone the other night because they were HR'ing for using the word "bitches", when the post they HR'd was OUTRAGEOUS for other reasons.

It's as if "progressives" will only allow themselves one emotion; fear.

I get angry. Sometimes I get REALLY angry.

And I'm not ashamed of it.

[ Parent ]
Yes, you're right... (15.00 / 4)
I realize that, and I have.

Apologies if I said anything uncouth along the way.

But there's absolutely nothing I said in those posts (and I've been at dKos in one form or another since 2005) that deserved to be hidden.  I broke no rules at all, other than the apparently new "Thou Shalt Not Disagree With Frederick Clarkson" commandment.

This whole idea that if "I" use the word "glarble", my opinion is somehow invalid, bothers me. Maybe it's because I worked construction, for years. EVERYTHING was an "effn" something. "Hand me those effn nails. I need your effn tape measure.

I was a "star" on a Yahoo! message board, for years. I was actually elected MAYOR of that board. ;->

It was about Ashcroft hiding the statues. I called it "the titty board" for the simple reason that I knew it offended the fundie nutbags.

Jeebus, if you don't offend someone, once in a while, why bother?

It's a serious question.

Are "progressives" and "liberals" all of a sudden "people pleasers"?

Cuz I'm not one, and if that's the new rule, I want to know so I can start looking for another club to join.

Sometimes I need to say "Fuck it, bitches, this SUCKS!"

And still be taken seriously.

Like when a large portion of America thinks "torture is OK".

"Fuck it bitches, that sucks!"

I mean, really...

Other than that, how ya been? ;->

Liberals and progressives... (15.00 / 4)
Progressives are people who are scared to call themselves liberals, imo.  As a matter of fact, that word (progressive) means nothing, really.  Murdering gay people could be considered "progress" if that's what current law spelled out.

I'm a proud fucking liberal, and I don't give one shit about what Reaganites think of me or that word.

Would that we only had a major party which represented liberal interests, eh?

Pass me a bottle, Mr. Jones...

Another proud liberal chiming in. (14.20 / 5)
I'll say "progressive politics" if it's what people are calling liberal politics these days, but really the only thing progressive that I want to see is the income tax system: i.e., tax the rich!

But then, I've always been a dfh pinko liberal ;-D

The post: Re: Ongoing Pi$$ing Contest? (13.60 / 5)
Although I have been posting and publishing things on these boards in various guises since as far back as '98, there was always something missing, a sort of existential disquiet as if I had not achieved all that I could. As if I had not, in a word arrived. But all that has changed now that I have gotten my very first bona fide internet stalker. Unfortunately, in this basically unfair universe one doesn't get to choose their internet stalker. If I did, my stalker would be something a little more nubile, something a little more female, something that would send me naked pictures that would really piss off my wife, rather than the apparently loosely glued guy that is obsessed with me. Still, it's touching. I'd like to thank the academy.

Since this obsessed stalker has, of late, devoted so much time and effort to me, I would be remiss not to return the favor. Now, it's not as if I haven't annoyed people before. I've even been elevated to the status of some net moron's personal Satan at times. Out there are some unapologetic bush-fellating "if you question God, the GOP, or bush (who are all essentially the same thing) you are a traitor" whackos that are still pissed off at me. There are several posters of the "Britney Spears mode of thinking a position through" (if our president says it's important we should support him...tee hee hee) who probably still have some very choice things to say about me because of my unforgivable lack of support for the super-patriotic and unquestionably moral Iraqi war and my own moral turpitude in thinking Rachel Corrie didn't exactly deserve to be run over by a bulldozer. But this stalker is different because, barring a stunning personal revelation by the coward to tell me otherwise, I have no knowledge of any significant interaction with this person, since he posts using a name made up solely for the purpose of trolling this board. Unconfirmed reports, for example, claim that this creep has spent some time in England working as a quality-control expert at the upscale "Taster's Choice" sperm bank in Kensington, but this has not been confirmed. To be fair to whatever-the-fvck-his-problem-is, I backtracked through his posts, but I kept nodding off and would wake up with QWERTY stamped across my forehead. That sort of thing is tough on a keyboard. So far, all the guy has written is a multiparagraph essay dedicated to investing me with awesome powers while simultaneously attempting to discredit every single person who has ever posted on this board as one of my mindless drones. One has to wonder who IS actually recommending these multiple reposts, as if they are still original or funny, since they are effectively insulting themselves.

In any event it's one of those creepy sort of deals that immediately makes you realize that this person simply is not like the other kids. Rest assured that I will sleep quite well tonight, anyway, knowing that I have put a rather large africanized bee up this idiot's butt.(And, for the same reasons that it's never a good idea to wrestle with a pig, I will not get into a pissing contest with someone who's sole purpose is to troll. But I had fun with this post.

Long since done... (14.60 / 5)
...even before I saw this comment!

Thanks for the save, Timbuk.  I reported the person who hid me to Meteor Blades for violating well-established rules.  Nothing will happen there I'm sure, but hopefully he'll get a message that it isn't cool to do again.

And I'm mostly disappointed in Troutfishing, whose work I've always respected and promoted relentlessly, but who is apparently a complete douchebag I'll never make the same mistake of supporting again.

I've never "taken a rec back" in my life at dKos, but I just did there for the first time.

I've accidentally "Unrec'd" diaries on occasion.  The first time, I was mortified & just didn't know what to do...the second, I think I apologized profusely.  Don't think I've ever unrec'd a diary on purpose.  A comment?  No sweat.

It's always fun to be hr'd by somebody whose work you've relentlessly promoted all over BlogWorld.  And to notice that someone you once had dinner with and thought was a friend (kimoconnor) is recc'ing your opponents and telling you you're an asshole (although I've asked numerous times just exactly what it is that I've done wrong and I've never gotten a response.  I guess The HR Clique at dKos doesn't like, and can't handle, people who can actually defend themselves questioning their motives and reasons).

Anyways, whatever.

I'm about to post a photo diary there just because...

See, that's why I like (13.60 / 5)
the community diaries & pootie people.  Oh, I definitely read elsewhere but if there's a pissing contest in the comments I'll back-button outta there before you can type "spaghetti."

bobswern doesn't seem to attract the haters, either: even if some people disagree with him, it rarely devolves into name-calling.  Perhaps the trolls simply don't understand what he's saying...or else I catch his diaries too early for the pie-throwing to have begun yet.

Y'know, what I miss the most are regular diaries from some of the people who did weekly posts when I first joined.  Unitary Moonbat is still around, but doesn't have the time to do regular historiorants anymore...and I forget his name, Mark H or something I think, but there was a guy who did weekly stories about different sea creatures with a poll on what next week's sea creature should be -- he's a marine biologist, so they were always interesting.

I wish BlueJerseyMom had the time to do weekly posts about archaeology, too.

But I highly rec K.A.MUSTON's history diaries.  Whoever s/he is, the diary titles are always ALL CAPS but the stories themselves are quite interesting.  In fact, plf picks them up for the Saturday dKos University diary...and rightly so.

You know why you miss it? (12.00 / 5)
Because of assholes like Frederick Clarkson, and other douchebags.

As I've said before, my original dKos uid was in the 13000s (not gonna reveal it for privacy / traceability reasons), although you do know my name.  Heh.

I know why that place now sucks just as much as many others.

To me, it's amazing that I was hr'd by two people on a so-called "progressive" (again, see my last comment here for what qualifies as 'progress' at times) blog, for calling fundie scum out for exactly what they are, by the very same peple who'd certainly be the first in line to be killed by same.

Oh I'm sorry, I guess I should have invited Fred Phelps and Co. over to my apartment for tea.

Then I guess I'd be okay in calling out these nuts (oops, sorry again I hope I didn't hurt anybody's feelings by calling them a name!) for wanting to pass laws killing gays, Jews, atheists, Muslims, etc...

Because that way, I guess I could write about their deadliness without hurting the very precious sensibilities of cocooned "academics" like Freddy Clarkson, and his mindless followers.

Pass me a bottle, Mr. Jones...

Late to the comments but always glad to help.

and I'm not a chopped liver fan myself.

I just couldn't resist messing with Timbuk3.  I had noticed the time stamp and knew why he specified you and Jay.

Is Juan still keeping busy helping out?

[ Parent ]
unbelievably... (12.33 / 3)
YES! and it's been wonderful. he's decided that the goats are HIS babies now, and I only have to take care of the horses which is a huge load off my shoulders. and since we've sold most of the bunnies (not Canela, of course), that's another big load, and expense, we don't have. note to self... if I'm gonna raise rabbits for profit, and I refuse to sell them for meat or pelts, then there will be NO profits! and those are profits I can definitely live without!!

This makes me (13.00 / 3)
so happy newp.

You and Juan mean so much to me and it gives me the warm fuzzies that Juan is doing so much better, and the added plus of it lightening your load.  :)

I have an old friend that tried raising rabbits for pelts.  She didn't do very well at it but I think that was mainly because she didn't take proper care of them.  It broke my heart seeing the conditions they lived in.

In defense of chopped liver... (15.00 / 4)
Never thought I'd like it.  I'm not a liver fan in general.  Then I took a D.C. area friend out for lunch at a Real Jewish Deli.  She had the chopped liver, I had the Sandwich Too Big To Eat In One Meal.

Her chopped liver was divine.  The other half of my sandwich was wrapped up & given to her to give her boyfriend, who reportedly loved it.  (Well, who doesn't love a combo of pastrami or corned beef & tongue on rye?)

heh...I miss great Jewish Deli food.

Chopped liver... (14.75 / 4)
We need to take you to Kenny & Zuke's one of these days!

Greatest sandwich ever (yes, it's even better than my beloved Town Hall Deli Jersey Sloppy Joe) - Ken's Special.  Thick, hand-cut* housemade pastrami, chopped liver, cole slaw and Russian dressing on rye.

Everything made in-house, of course.

Was just at K&Z on Friday with a new friend and had another.  If I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life, that would be it.

;)

Confession time (15.00 / 2)
I don't know if I've ever actually tried chopped liver or not. Its just one of those things that I don't like the smell of so I don't eat it.  But on the other hand I don't like the smell of parmesian cheese either and I do use it occasionally and like the taste.

QUILT DIARY (12.00 / 4)
http://www.dailykos.com/story/...

I had not intended to put up a quilt diary until the quilts for dadanation and Larry Bailey were done (they will be, soon) - but Carolita contacted me last night about an immediate need and I did not want to delay.  Dr. William Harrison is closing his women's clinic due to his own serious illness.  This is an urgent quilt request.

Dr. William F. Harrison, so well known here for his defense of women's reproductive rights and as a friend of the late Dr. George Tiller, is gravely ill with leukemia.  To truly add insult to injury, this kind and gentle man has had anti-abortion groups wish him ill in a most hateful manner.  Let us do the opposite - let us send him wishes of love, respect, and healing, to be transcribed by me in archival ink and sewn into a quilt.  Please leave a message in the comments below for inclusion in the quilt.  This blanket will be soft, warm, and full of good feeling -- a real "love catcher".  It is a good way to send the doctor our community hugs, so that he will have them always.

PLEASE go help our Dear Sara out....

even if you can't donate, please leave a message for this incredible man.

"Indeed, if a poor man will spend a year in prison for stealing out of hunger,
how high would the gallows need to be to hang the rich man?"

done, thank you, Ria! (12.00 / 4)

Although I'm not a DKos poster for a number of reasons, (14.80 / 5)
Here is my message of support and condolences for Dr. William F. Harrison:  I hope somebody here in firefly-dreaming will put my following note up so that it will be seen on dkos, even though I don't post there.

Hello!  Although I don't know you online or personally, I am giving you all my support and wishing you the best of luck.  I'm sorry to  hear about your illness, the  hatred that you had by nasty anti-choice groups and individuals while you worked at your clinic, and I admire you for bravely soldiering on in the face of all that.  All the best of luck to you, Dr. Harrison!  My thoughts are with you during these dark and difficult times.

Thanks.

What a beautiful day is was today here in Boston and the Bay State! (13.75 / 4)
I'm happy to say that I went on the first long-distance bike-ride in over a month, and it felt really, really wonderful.  It's getting dark, I have to shower, stretch, feed Aziza and clean her cage.  More later.

:)
