Ten years ago my husband and I used to go to the outdoor concerts, at least 2 or 3 during the summer, now with mom gone we are out and about again. There are lots of places in our area where they have outdoor concerts, one is on the waterfront in downtown Seattle. There you can listen and watch the sun go down behind the Olympic Mountains across the water while the lights of the city come on, awesome. Another favorite is St Michelle Winery ( a beautiful place) http://www.ste-michelle.com/ev... there you can lay your blanket out and drink your favorite vino and Marymore park where we will go this Saturday to see Michael Franti, I'll write about that after http://www.concertsatmarymoor.... . Last night we went to the Zoo concert at Woodland Park Zoo to see Mary Chapin Carpenter. I forgot to take my camara. :o(.
She started alone on the stage with this incredible song....... each of her band members joined her one at a time through the song, as they joined her on the stage they bowed a deep bow to each other, it was powerful humble testament honoring each other's presence, very moving.
The Zoo concerts are in a meadow shaped like a bowl with trees framing the concert area. The concert started a 6PM to a sold out crowd of all ages. The greatest thing about the Zoo concerts is parents can bring their kids, have a picnic dinner on a blanket, kids can dance and play, you can stretch out, look up at the sky, soar with the birds, feel the breeze and watch the sun go down all while enjoying live music. It was a 70 degree night and I felt so alive, memories flooding back of all the outdoor concerts before this one.
Mary Chapin Carpenter has been absent from the music scene for 3 year due to a near death experience which shaped her new album, Age of Miracles. This is a very powerfully moving album and the reason we bought our tickets to see her.
In the spring of 2007, as Carpenter was preparing to tour behind her Grammy-nominated album "The Calling," the 52-year-old New Jersey native suffered a pulmonary embolism.
She shared with us many stories but one that I will repeat here is she has 10 dogs and 6 cats, she said she misses them terribly when she is on the road and she doesn't mind saying she kisses each one on the lips when she gets home. LOL she sounds like a firefly, got to love her!
Carpenter's song are deeply personal, I witnessed people crying as her music brings to mind our own life experiences. Mary takes you through a whole range of emotions, the crowd danced, laughed and rejoiced living in moment. It was a night of celebrating life itself in what better place but the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle Washington on Aug. 3, 2010.
I will end with this, she had the whole zoo dancing, so just shut up and kiss me.....
