Saturday Open Thoughts

by: Alma

Sat Aug 07, 2010 at 00:20:27 AM EDT

I had a wonderful open thought planned, but as happens so often lately I didn't get the time to do it.  Maybe if I had some Firefly Wake Up juice I wouldn't need to sleep and would have all those extra hours to not get anything accomplished.  ;)

Lala is doing so much better.  We couldn't believe it when we weighed her a minute ago.  She gained 2.6 ounces in 24 hours.  Today she's eaten some carrot tops, cilantro, bib lettuce,  and chard, (all from my garden) besides having about 6 servings of her critical care, and lots of squash juice.

I weighed myself today.  I've lost eight pounds since she got sick.  If she keeps improving maybe I can put some weight back on.

Hopefully I'll get the post done for open thoughts tomorrow that I had planned for today.

Any plans for this weekend?

Any plans for this weekend?

"Just the usual, Pinky:  We're going to take over the world!"

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

SO glad to hear that Lala's doing so very well.

Working again this weekend.  That's okay: I also get Mon.-Wed. off for my weekend.

One of the new employees -- and I can't say I know her very well b/c I haven't worked with her extensively but she's a worker if you know what I mean and just needs more training -- worked a very long shift today & ended up helping close the store with me and The Boss.

I suspect she's one of his best hires.  She's certainly MUCH more intelligent than the men he's hired so far [note to self:  Self, tell the guys to stop pulling the two-liter sodas forward instead of, y'know, actually restocking them.  Makes it harder see what really, y'know, needs to be restocked.]

As soon as (15.00 / 4)
Bush/Cheney got into office I started associating Pinky and the Brain (and their song) with Bush/Cheney.  Then not to long after that I saw that other people online had noticed the similarities.

I so think your' store and Katies are identical.  Its the exact same problems she has where she works.  But where she is a lot of the females hired havn't been rocket scientists or workers either.  Whenever she does get a good coworker they usually end up on a different shift after a few weeks.

The open thoughts I'm hoping to get together for tomorrow is about a company that offered one of Katies friends a job.  Don't know much about the company but the rules and benefits Katie read off to me makes it sound like a dream company to work for.  And now that I've mentioned it I'm more likely to make myself find time to do it today.

Just for comedic value: (14.40 / 5)
I told someone over at Orange a few days ago to lose an apostrophe (its was correct, it's was not).  Someone else chimed in going, thank FSM I'm not the only one annoyed by that (or words to that effect).

So tonight I chimed in about the English-Firsters.

Like, maybe they ought to actually LEARN ENGLISH:

Theirs wasn't there... (10.80 / 5)
Theirs wasn't there, and now they're thinking it's not fair their fare is not in its chair.  Where were they going to wear their ware?  To the fair, where the bear has hair and the hare is bare?

Heh, oh don't mind me just having some fun with our stupid language...

;)

Pass me a bottle, Mr. Jones...

That is (15.00 / 4)

plan.... (14.75 / 4)
i'm hoping to finish the second quilt today, but the princess has a way of disrupting plans without really trying....
it seems they are here until tues. or wed.
....

i'm getting the welbutrin 'scrip' refilled. maybe this time i can really quit.

i'm ever so pleased to hear about lala....
maybe she's really on the road to recovery now

Do we get (14.75 / 4)
pictures of the quilts?  I sure hope so.

The princess might disrupt plans but I'm sure whatever disruption there is, is well worth it.  :)  Nothing better than a baby to make a day full of smiles and adventure.

I have faith in you Ria.  You quit before so you can quit again.  I know you can darlin'.

Lala's looking so much better to me this morning.  Her bony little face and nose are starting to fill out again.  My main worries now are her digestive tract getting used to solids again, and her front teeth not overgrowing before she starts eating hay.  The front ones don't really look overgrown yet but she's positioning the syringe at the side of her mouth instead of center and I'm hearing a grinding noise that I'm not sure if its her front teeth hitting together or her back ones grinding food.   When I've heard the grinding before its been when her front ones have overgrown.

Best wishes for Lala, Alma, and (12.00 / 4)
for you, too.

plans went astray yesterday. i was so tired i slept most of the day. i don't really know why i was so exhausted.
feeling much better today.

i hope lala is still eating, gaining weight & feeling much better.
now YOU need to eat & gain weight!

Sounds like (10.00 / 1)
the princess wore you out!  If we could only bottle part of the energy we have when we are young to use as we get older.

Glad you are feeling better.  A day of sleep sounds marvelous to me.  :)

Lala didn't eat much solid food yesterday but I think she had overdone it the day before and either her jaw was sore from chewing food or it irritated her sores from the spurs. She wasn't very active either. She seems to be doing better this morning. Still favoring having the syringe in the left side of her mouth but using the right some and she had a little lettuce.  She seems a bit happier this morning too.

Yeah, I know I need to start eating more.  I just haven't had much of an appetite, or time to snack, since Lollers got sick.

Plan... (12.67 / 3)
Shave. Shower. Coffee.

Across the street at the coffee shop, because I want some company and some fresh air while I finish reading the book I've been trying to finish and review all week...

And see?  Distractions!  This is my never ending problem.

;)

Pass me a bottle, Mr. Jones...

You're (12.67 / 3)
having your shave, shower and coffee at the coffee shop?  I didn't know they had a shower.  Don't get your book wet.  ;)

[ Parent ]
Yes, it's full serve! (14.50 / 4)
Heh, actually I could get a shave the next door down in the very same building, though!

My coffee shop, let me show you it!

Wow, that's an old picture.  From before they even got a sidewalk cafe permit!

Here's the outside now.  Much nicer -

And Barber Dan is still cuttin' and shavin' one door down.

;)

Pass me a bottle, Mr. Jones...

[ Parent ]
Oh, yeah... (9.67 / 3)
But probably no shower there, though.

;)

Coffee gotten... (14.67 / 3)
Book?  Still not finished.

Okay, I need to get that done.

I should walk to the park and read there!  Too nice out to sit around inside today...

Catching On: The Day The World Turned Gay (13.60 / 5)
LOL

Catching On begins the day same-sex marriage is nationally legalized, and young Brian McCabe wakes up to a nation divided. His father and other slippery slope theorists fear that homosexuality will suddenly spread across the world... and it does. Now Brian must fight against the zombie-like gays and lesbians as they pass on their condition through ass grabbing. He'll have to overcome his adolescent awkwardness, save the girl of his dreams, and try to straighten everything out before its too late.

Ass grabbing... (7.80 / 5)
