Thursday Open Thoughts: A little late (sorry), but weighing in, nonetheless:

Good morning, everybody!!

Here are my Open Thoughts for today.  I got preoccupied and almost forgot about it all, but here I am.

mplo :: Thursday Open Thoughts: A little late (sorry), but weighing in, nonetheless:
For starters, I got a new printer, and have been in the process of installing it, and trying to figure some stuff out.  Since the battery of my cordless phone has to be recharged, I won't be able to contact the company until then for some advice.  Fed Ex delivered it to me last evening, at around five o'clock.  It's a handsome, nifty-looking thing, which is far quieter than my old printer,  which I'm happy about, and I can also copy things on it as well.  First, however,  I have to figure out how to really get things going so I can really get started.  Boy am I glad to have this new printer, as I've got quite afew things to print, but I've got to figure out how to really go about it first.

Oh, to make my day, I got an email from a fellow West Side Story fan and correspondent (as everybody else on that particular website did) about the impending restoration and re-release of the 70mm film version of West Side Story.  It's definitely in the works, and will be re-released....worldwide!  I'm so excited (I know, I know!) about it.  Sometimes I wonder why I get so excited over a movie that I've seen enough times at this point so that I've stopped counting, but what the heck?  That's just me.  I've gotta tell you, however, that if that 70mm re-release of West Side Story ever, ever comes to our area, I'm game, and I'd be willing to fork over money to go see it, if need be!

Oh, and while we're on the subject of West Side Story, I came across yet another link full of posters of that great, golden oldie but keeper of a movie/musical Classic film, but this:

http://www.movieposter.com/pos...

is a link of my alltime favorite poster of West Side Story, from Japan!

Anyway, back to what I've been saying;  Aziza's doing well and is her old, chipper self.  She's been testing me more and more as she gets older, but, hey, the love is worth it, and it goes with the territory.  Last night, as I was changing her vegetables mix, I forgot to close the other food panel, and she snuck out of her cage and onto her playtop.  She started laughing (yes, she can laugh already!), and, when I put on the CD soundtrack to West Side Story, she also started laughing!  She still growls....loudly, when I turn on the vacuum cleaner and vacuum within the vicinity of her cage, but was told that there was nothing I could do about that, and that she'd eventually get used to it, when I called to ask how to get her to overcome her fear of the vacuum cleaner.   My cleaning lady came for the first time in a long time, so Aziza was kind of nervous about that, and growled, as usual, when the vacuum cleaner was going, but, well, what can I say.  I think that I'm going to have to have the cleaning lady come twice a month now, because I have Aziza.  That's OK, however.

Anyway, folks...I'll post more later.  What's on everybody's minds?  Any thoughts?  Just curious.

I love (15.00 / 4)
listening to birds laugh.

The one that adopted Katie at the vet in Toledo laughs everytime people laugh and he also laughs anytime he nips someone.  Its quite contagious.  :)

Hi there, Alma! (15.00 / 4)
I love listening to Aziza laugh!  It really is something else!  Oh, for the joys of pets.  With all the trials and tribulations that can and do come with owning pets, there's so much joy, and they're so like and part of the family!  It's contagious!

Glad to read/hear that LaLa's doing better.  Thanks for the report.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

morning, Miki! (15.00 / 4)
I got the "morning" part in just in time - it's almost noon here, though I'm sure by the time I hit post it'll be afternoon  :O/

Aziza pics when ya can, please? I can't wait to see how much she's maturing, and I think it's so funny that she growls at the vacuum, wish I could hear her! I have to run the vac twice a day here, and the dogs don't even wait for me to turn it on before they scatter like mad, slipping and sliding and busting butts on the tile floors until they can finally reach the sanctuary of the nearest bed. they don't growl, but have these pitiful, cowering looks as if they've seen a huge beast! they don't hold up too well with thunder, either, so maybe the roar of the vac reminds them of a storm coming? the cats are another story ~ if they're stretched out on the floor I've got to nudge them with the vac before they even think about being disturbed from their naps!!

can't wait for you to see the restoration of WSS and get your report ~ I don't think there's a chance that we'll have the opportunity to see it here on the island, WSS isn't exactly a favorite to the Puerto Ricans!

My cats (12.00 / 4)
don't like the vaccuum. They scatter when they see it being pulled out.  Even Ro who is normally not afraid of much of anything.

I want to see some Aziza pics too!

How's Juan doing today?  All worn out from coming home?

seems his old self again... (12.75 / 4)
raising hell that the house isn't clean enough! HA - I laugh to his face!!!

Hi there, newp! (14.00 / 4)
Thanks for your warmhearted reply to my Thursday Open.  I haven't yet taken any new Aziza pictures, but that will come.  She's funny as anything, and mischievous, to boot.  She's whistling more than ever, sometimes loudly, sometimes softly, sometimes at a medium tone.  Aziza doesn't have a cowering look, but she's got one hell of a growl on her, not only in response to the vacuum cleaner, but when people she doesn't know come in, she'll do that with them too, at first, because she's frightened of anything or anyone new coming into or near her territory.  Nonetheless, once she sees such people as non-threatening, she calms down, along with some reassuring from me.  When people she doesn't know get too near her cage, this tends to happen.

Your cats sound awfully funny in response to storms coming, or with the vacuum cleaner...they sound rather stoic!
Animals are so funny...it's amazing how differently they respond to different things.

I myself can't wait for the West Side Story Restoration either, newp, and I can't wait to write about or talk about it...and drive everybody bats!  hehe!  LOL!  I will give you and everybody the report, although it's at least a year off.  A national re-release for this classic's 50th Anniversary would be exciting!  Thanks for your encouragement and compliments, newp.

Btw, how's Juan doing?  Hope you're both doing well.  All the best of luck to both of you.

thanks! (15.00 / 4)
for all your good wishes Miki!!! he seems to be doing fine, and definitely glad to be home surrounded by all the animals again.

Thanks for posting this link, RiaD. (14.67 / 3)
Since I'm not a dailykos poster, may I ask you to put the following message up for me:?

Sara:  from a non-dailykos poster, all the best of luck to you and everybody else on your quilt team.  This quilt is also quite beautiful, especially because it so reminds me of so many optical illusions that I've seen around and get ideas for my work from.

Although I don't know you personally, either on or off-line, I wish you and yours all the best.

miki aka mplo.

RiaD;  Thanks for your time and attention on this matter.   All the best to you and yours, too.  It was cool seeing pictures of your daughter and the Princess, who's so cute!

Well, (10.00 / 2)
For starters, I don't want to have too many blogs to post on, especially because I do have stuff going on off-line as well.

Secondly, since there's so much intolerance over there, my opinions would totally unwelcome.

Thirdly, as everybody here on firefly-dreaming is aware of, many of the things that I like to post about are either not political, or they're about events that happened a long time ago.

Fourth:  I don't like the proprietor/owner's attitudes and political stances (too rightwing for me-an ex CIA agent, or something.

It looks like I'm going to have to operate my printer the old way...with a USB/AB cable connecting my new printer to the computer. (14.75 / 4)
Unfortunately, in order to go wireless, one has to have a special router, which can cost well over a hundred or one hundred and fifty dollars, which isn't worth it, imho,  plus, from what I've heard/read, going wireless presents more headaches than it's worth.   However, since I stupidly threw out my old USB cable with my old printer, I'll have to get a new one.  Oh, well.  The printer's all installed, anyway.

I've got to go do some errands.  Later...

heh...a friend of mine (11.00 / 4)
who is actually savvy about computers was discussing the merits of having a wireless mouse.

When I discovered that you had to worry about batteries dying, I decided the wire wasn't much of an inconvenience: I can live with it.  But my mouse does have the little red light underneath it, rather than one of those annoying track balls.

So I can sympathize with your decision to just get a new USB cable and keep it simple rather than more complicated.

English usage is sometimes more than mere taste, judgment and education - sometimes it's sheer luck, like getting across the street.

Thanks, Youff. Although my newest computer has both a wireless mouse and a wireless keyboard, (14.50 / 2)
which isn't much of an inconvenience, since I just keep a whole bunch of the right-sized batteries on hand,  I decided that going wireless with my new printer would be more complicated and expensive than it was worth.  So, even though my new printer is theoretically wireless, I decided to purchaser a USB cable and install that, going the regular way.  Purchasing a special router (Airport Extreme) would've been close to two hundred dollars,  and, from what I've read and heard from other people, going wireless with a printer is more trouble than the other way.

Btw, my wireless mouse has a tiny little green light under it, rather than a bothersome trackball.  When  the batteries to either the keyboard or the mouse are running low, an icon pops up on my computer screen with a "low-battery" warning.  I can also monitor how low the batteries of either my keyboard or mouse are by going to the system preferences section and hitting either the mouse or the keyboard icon to obtain that information.  It's pretty cool, really.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

[ Parent ]
I also might add that going wireless is far riskier than it's worth to me; (15.00 / 1)
There's a much greater chance of being hacked into because it's much less secure, due to the fact that, unless one has a super-strong password on their router, there's a greater chance that somebody else could be using your computer..from their house or whatever, to do some mischief, if one gets the drift.  Not a chance worth taking, imho.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
