GULF COAST, New Agenda

by: KNUCKLEHEAD

Fri Aug 20, 2010 at 21:03:28 PM EDT

(until knuck comes back, i'll keep promoting this one
- promoted by RiaD
)

As usual, I`m back on Fridays to post my coral reef images & to lend my small support to all the people from the gulf, & for all the plants & animals, above & belowthe surface.
I fear the damage will affect more the denizens of the deep, than the more visible surface land inhabitants.
As I`m sure you`ll all concur, I believe this was by design, ... to minimize the visible surface  damage, at the much greater expense of the out-of-sight underwater damage.
I`m encouraged, albeit minimally, of the renewed pushback against the mantra of "the oil is gone", a magical feat, (read, pack of lies) akin to the  (mushroom cloud from WMD`S in Iraq).

KNUCKLEHEAD :: GULF COAST, New Agenda
I have to thank the innumerable writers & commentors on blogs I frequent for their nonstop activism to provide current info on the status of all things pertaining to the gulf.
Another thing I should mention is the building of a coalition of writers I see, grouping to address more than the gulf catastrophe, but also global warming , the flooding in Pakistan, & alternative energy sources etc. etc.
Here are some links to other site & writers all working for the same goal,..
To save this planet in as diverse ways as there are problems.
Feel free to add links to sites I have not mentioned in your comments, please

Yes, I feel the same way.
Thank you for the poetry.

wordlessness (15.00 / 4)
Thanks, Knucklehead, that's either a true compliment or friendly and diplomatic flattery! I don't consider it poetry, but perhaps it does communicate something beyond the mere string of words, venturing into one unspeakable place where words don't work. Non-conformal expression is the only thing left sometimes...

Thank you for your respect for life in all its forms and for finding beauty and sharing your personal view of it. Visual poetry, I'd say - no words necessary, though your words are also artful.

It seemed like free form in the way of a Haiku to me.
It`s not flattery, when it`s a compliment.
Flattery connotes a selfish result.

Aesop
The Fox and The Crow
A Fox once saw a Crow fly off with a piece of cheese in its beak and settle on a branch of a tree.

"That's for me, as I am a Fox," said Master Reynard, and he walked up to the foot of the tree.

"Good day, Mistress Crow," he cried. "How well you are looking today: how glossy your feathers; how bright your eye. I feel sure your voice must surpass that of other birds, just as your figure does; let me hear but one song from you that I may greet you as the Queen of Birds."

The Crow lifted up her head and began to caw her best, but the moment she opened her mouth the piece of cheese fell to the ground, only to be snapped up by Master Fox.

"That will do," said he. "That was all I wanted. In exchange for your cheese I will give you a piece of advice for the future: "Do not trust flatterers."

No less than the best intentions assumed, even though my choice of word was flawed, my friend. I humbly accept your compliments and your gentle and humorous correction.

No harm whatsoever.
Aesop is your friend.
I probably read all his fables many many many years ago.

Pretty good fable, no?

thanks (15.00 / 4)
for continuing reminding us all....

i must say your anemones are fabulous. they look so soft. i'd like a bed of anemones like the clownfish has... maybe i will come back as one?!
i think my favourite fish is your blenny. his lil' eyebrows are just so cute.

this gorilla crab is a new one. does it live separately?
reminds me of those white fur rugs....

thanks knucklehead
your post calms me down so often throughout the week...

If you`re a clownfish, they make a nice bed.
If you`re not, stay out of the bed.
I often get stung by some of my reef friends.

The Gorilla Crab, is a hitchhiker, that came into my tank on a piece of rock.
It is not suitable for my reefs, but I keep it in other locations, like the sump, or in a refugium.
It will kill all snails, small shrimp, certain corals, etc.
I photographed it in a glass bowl after trapping it, but before I moved it to a different tank.
Most people would simply kill it.

Here is

Natural Born Killer
_NATURAL-BORN-KILLER-2-DSCN

just sitting on a Toadstool Leather, calmly eating a snail it just killed & being "in your face" about it.
It seems like it`s being fanned by a "Feather Duster" worm behind it.

wow!! (15.00 / 3)
Beautiful pictures, as always, KH.  I'm at a loss for words about all the underwater ocean life that's been more than likely killed off by the latest man-made oil gusher.

That gorilla crab is something else!  So's that feather duster worm behind it!  That gorilla crab's got some casual, cool and "in one's face" attitude--smug as all hell and enjoying that snail!  LOL

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

First of all, thank you.
What happens is when you bring in a piece of coral attached to a rock, a small crab might be hiding in a little hole in it.
A year later, after you`ve been wondering what the hell has been killing stuff in your tank, you`ll see something peripherally & wonder.
Then a week later you might see it again.
The hunt is on.
What the hell is it.
Late at night with a flashlight you finally see the prophet of doom, a Fuzzy crab.
Now that you know what & where it is, it`s a simple matter of catching it.
Ya, right.
It`s almost impossible to trap something that won`t be caught inside a reef.
But I finally did, & rather than kill it, I moved it into another tank, a sub tank to the main reef one.
And so it goes.

[ Parent ]
i'm ver ver glad (15.00 / 2)
you didn't kill it.
it's a really cool looking crab. it almost looks like a stuffed animal you'd buy for a baby, with silky 'fur'
how big is this crab? i guess it was tiny when it hitched a ride in?

I sort of frown on the killing of any living creature.
But that`s just me.
This Fuzzy Crab is about the size of a silver dollar.
Who knows what size it was.
They can stuff themselves into holes in rocks along with dozens of other things that can come back & haunt your reef.
I never really worry about these hitchhikers, since they all came from a reef, & have simply moved to another one.

so many people (15.00 / 2)
do NOT have your attitude (much to my dismay)in fact many people are just the opposite... if it's in their way- WHACK!
...
have you seen the movie Avatar?
if not you really should.... you'd love it.

Yes, I saw it in 4 D.
That`s3D, with a huge brownie. (You do remember those right?)
I expect to see it again this Friday.
It`s being re-released with an extra 9 minutes of never seen before footage.
I loved it.
I hadn`t been to a movie in 15 years.

Inter Press News Service Agency

The "out of control" gets better

i found Inter Press Service News Agency doing stories on the Gulf. Never heard of them. Wikipedia told me these guys hang around after the media with the deadline grabs and goes.

"The agency has established a niche in the international mediascape, not only by providing professional reporting on the so-called global South, civil society and globalization, but also by covering topics in a more in-depth way than is common in the mainstream news."

They got their start in  1966 and have been digging facts ever since. "In recent cases, IPS exercised direct influence on the mainstream media agenda:

" When a federal building in Oklahoma was attacked in 1995, the U.S. media blamed Arab terrorists. IPS was the first news outlet to maintain that white U.S. Americans from the ultraright had in fact committed the bombings. The assertion was finally confirmed and accepted by the mainstream media."

So, when I read their article on the fish kills in the Gulf, I found them offering extended comments from Dr. Cake and more. The traditional media heard the surface statement and missed a few other things he said. These guys stayed after class. Clearly made all the difference.  Out of control. Out of sight. Truncated information. You name it.

"Fish kills"
Here`s a picture I picked up a few weeks ago from somewhere down there.
There are thousands upon thousands in this one.
Yes, these are all tiny fish.

You're welcome, KH. (14.33 / 3)
Sorry I'm so late in responding to your post.  Keep up the great work!!  We need to be made more aware of what's being destroyed as a consequence of our Government's actions and behaviour.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Knuck (15.00 / 4)
The pics are great, but the ongoing coverup bothers me.

Q: President Obamba, do you want to see the British retirement system collapse? Do you think that will help in refueling your warships?

A: Let me see what I can do...

The MIC, the need for a capitalist system to constantly expand, continues to be a problem.

Timbuk3 (14.20 / 5)
The coverup is almost a "fait acompli".
Show me a recent news report from any US paper on the situation in the gulf.
.... I`ll wait.
That video you posted is sickening.
