I'm addicted to doing griddler puzzles.  There are many other names for them but since I've been a member at Griddlers.net since Dec. 9, 2002 I'm partial to the term griddler over nonogram or paint by numbers.  Some are single puzzles and some are multigriddlers have many parts to finish to make a whole puzzle.  Some of the larger multigriddlers are stunning.

As I've mentioned before there's been a canned pumpkin shortage going on.  According to this old article it might be over soon:

Nestle says that once it runs out, it won't have more pumpkin to can until August, when the 2010 harvest starts. This year's shortage started several months ago and was the result of Libby's not having much surplus from the 2008 crop as a carry-over to sell in September. Nestle said in October that it expected the shortage to ease as the 2009 harvest got underway.

I love tigers.  I love all types of cats but I don't think I'd try and smuggle one onto a plane in my luggage hidden among stuffed animal tigers.

What the hell is wrong with people?

My city had a power outage Saturday.  Actually it went off a bunch of times and then while I was taking a bath it decided to go off for a longer time.  We don't know why it went off.  We were just having a nice gentle rain all day, no high winds or lightning.

So I take Kate to work and when I get back I find out the power company says they'll have it back on between 7 and 9 Sunday night.  My first thought is to call Ria and let her know I might not be able to do todays open thoughts.  My second thought is that I have her number on the computer which doesn't run well with no electricity.  Note to self:  Emergency numbers do no good if you can't get to them in an emergency.

Well the restaurant didn't have power either but the owners car was there and Roxannes bike.  So I call my mom to find out what we are doing for dinner.  The restaurant had already called her to see if we were coming down.  They don't have a generator but all their kitchen stuff is gas so they could still cook everything but we would have to do without coffee.  They told mom they would stay open until we got there.

Now Michigan enacted no smoking in restaurants back in May.  When we got there they had put on our table 2 styrofoam cups half full with water  and told us since they were closing, it was a private party, and we could smoke.

It was so quiet without the sounds of all the refridgerators, lights, and other things going, and it was dusk, still enough natural light to see each other.  The kitchen on the other hand was dark since they don't have windows in there and we had a blast watching the cooks making everything while holding their flashlights.  There were flashlight beams going all over in that kitchen.  Kind of looked light lightsaber fights at times.  It was a really fun dinner and the cooks came out to visit with us when they were done.  The food was great too.  We told them it was so good that maybe they should cook by flashlight every night.

Mom took the owners phone number so she could call him when the power came back on.  We couldn't see any reason for them to have to make the drive in the morning if the power wasn't back on.  They live about a half hour away.

As you can tell they got the power back on sooner than their estimate, and I sure hope it stays on.

Happy Sunday!

I have aphids in my garden.  So instead of getting to play with my new internet service I get to de-bug my garden.

I've been soaping the leaves and washing them off with a heavy spray for the past two days and its getting the number down drastically but I'm still finding some.

I got a late start fighting them because when I first saw them I thought it was saw dust on the leaves.  The first plants to get it were right by the garbage can my hubby puts his saw dust in.

So I'm probably out washing off my plants as you read this.

Little Lollerskates is up to 32.8 ounces.  So she's gained 6 ounces from her low point.  :)

I'm a union girl.  I grew up in a union family.  If it wasn't for the union benefits we get we probably would have lost our house when hubby became disabled and it took so long to get his Social Security Disability through.

One of my daughters friends got a job offer out of the blue from Epic.  They seem to make software for healthcare.  I don't know if their product is any good but I do know I like some of their rules and benefits.

Here's a little bit about them:

We love our 500-acre campus - it's a blend of pastoral and urban, of Midwestern charm and a quirky sensibility that's uniquely Epic.

We're an IT company dedicated to improving healthcare, and we work with some of the most influential healthcare organizations in the world. Our customers win awards. Our software wins awards.

I had a wonderful open thought planned, but as happens so often lately I didn't get the time to do it.  Maybe if I had some Firefly Wake Up juice I wouldn't need to sleep and would have all those extra hours to not get anything accomplished.  ;)

Lala is doing so much better.  We couldn't believe it when we weighed her a minute ago.  She gained 2.6 ounces in 24 hours.  Today she's eaten some carrot tops, cilantro, bib lettuce,  and chard, (all from my garden) besides having about 6 servings of her critical care, and lots of squash juice.

I weighed myself today.  I've lost eight pounds since she got sick.  If she keeps improving maybe I can put some weight back on.

Hopefully I'll get the post done for open thoughts tomorrow that I had planned for today.

Any plans for this weekend?

Oh what a Friday!  But first a new cute picture of Lala

Lala had her weekly vet appointment this morning at 9am.  She has been having more problems lately and still losing weight.  Dr. Greear thought Lala needed her back teeth done again and a more thorough examination by a specialist.   So she made a call and got us in to Dr. Tim Reichard.   "Dr. Tim" interned at the San Diego Zoo and then was the Chief veterinarian at the Toledo Zoo for 23 years.  So we went to his clinic Bird and Exotic Pet Wellness Center in Toledo Ohio.  It took us about 45 minutes to get there.

Ever have one of those days when you're busy and running late all day long, with not enough hours to get everything done?  And looking back you don't see where you've accomplished much of anything? Saturday was one of those days for me, so I'm sorry but you guys get ripped off with just a cute kitty picture. :(

I did get one thing accomplished.  I got Lala's measurement for her chin sling sent in, so we'll hopefully have it in 5 days or so.

I'm hoping to catch up on everything today.

Happy Sunday All!

It is an Art

I've mentioned before that my daughter is an animal whisperer, but  I don't know if I ever mentioned her ability with some insects.  We generally don't kill bugs here, we take them outside.  I don't know if some insects sense that Katie won't hurt them or what, but the other day when we went grocery shopping she discovered a pretty metallic green bug with wings on her knuckle.  Well she figured it would fly away but it didn't.  It stayed on her hand the whole time we were in the store until we were in the checkout line. So about a half hour.

I first started getting an inkling of her animal abilities when she was a toddler and the ducks would come try and nibble on her toes when we sat on our porch with our bare feet dangling.  Then we she was 5 or so she started bringing birds in the house to me.  She talks to everything and most respond in their manner.

A few months ago my daughter started working with a woman new to the USA that came from India about 6 months ago.  Well Bockney (I probably really misspelled her name badly) has had time to observe Katie as she befriends all the stray animals, cats, dogs, squirrels, mice, etc. their clients animals she goes out to visit when they come to the store, and the insects she takes outside.  The night before last as Katie was taking an ant outside I think Bockney nailed it.  She said:  "The way you are with the dogs and the insects, it is an art." and ICAWHMIISIM!

Hows your Sunday?
